Thread: Tokens

    Default Tokens

Yesterday I emailed 3 different vendors to inquire about a large (100,000 tokens) order. Well 24 hours has gone by and none of the 3 responded, but 2 vendors that I did NOT inquire to, responded back to me. Hmmm???I find that very interesting? Anyway one of them wouldn't even cut me a break off of their $53 + s/h for 1000. My conclusion is that the major suppliers of this hobby are doing an OPEC on us. I have spent the last 3 weeks trying to get wholesale prices on tokens. The best deal I can get at wholesale is $3 more per 1000 than I can get them at retail??? I smell some funny business going on. And I mentioned before (as others have as well) about the shill bidding on ebay on these machines. I have been following some auctions like a hawk, and my hawk smells a RAT!!!

From what I hear, prices for tokens have gone up recently. Add to that, most dealers are low on all products right now. Christmas time wiped out a good chunk of most inventories and is still keeping everyone busy. Also, the prices you see on ebay for tokens are pretty much wholesale, not retail. I would call retail somewhere around 8-10 cents a token. When I sell 500 tokens for $37 bucks on ebay, including shipping, I'm getting only about $27 after shipping cost and shipping supplies. That's about 5 1/2 cents per token and not much of a markup over cost.

I don't think there is any funny business going on. You're just comparing ebay pricing, which is pretty close to wholesale on anything you buy. Check a local retail store on most any Pachislo product and you'll pay double what you do on ebay.

I wish I could find them that low ($27 per 1000), the best I can find is $53 per 1000 on an 100,000 token order - that's insane in my opinion!!! These prices are not ebay prices but companies that mint tokens. On ebay I can get them cheaper than the company that mints them - that just doesn't make any sense. But on my other topic of the shill bidding, I am 100% convinced - 3 weeks of watching auctions very closely to see who is bidding and who is winning the bids. Trust me when I say there are some RATS selling on ebay. I won't dime them out here on the forum, but I have enough evidence for me. I will not bid on items from certain vendors (some of which are praised on this forum) because of what I have concluded. But to each their own!

    Consider this, too....
Right now, we're in the "aftermarket" phase of Christmas sales.
    Add-ons, tokens, balls, etc.
Not to mention that "gotta have one more" machine.

I have to think that prices will drop... just when, I'm not sure.
Hey... those of you that have been around longer than me...
When will things get back to "reasonable" pricing for buyers?

I wish it was August or September again... and I knew then what I know now!

I would call voice to hoffman.com, the amount you are talking about, to me is a real person to person deal.

Zcore was talking about $27 for 500 not 1000. So you guys are talking the same price range.

I know that the wholesale price of steel is way up, and many alloys are hard to come by right now. I've heard that some of the parlors on Japan are having trouble getting tokens due to steel shortages as well.

If you havnet noticed, prices are back to normal! I saw tons of machines going for just over $100 yesterday on ebay. Even some quite nice machines are selling fairly cheap! Summer usually slows way down because everyone is outside, but its slowed way down since a cou[ple weeks before christmas. I saw run of hte mill standard machines selling for 275 and up.

    Hoffman Mint
    800-227-5813
Call them and ask for their best price on their stock .984 brass token in your 100,000 lot.
    I know it's 58 @ 1,000 up to 25,000 so their 100K price should be better.

Called hoffman, waiting for them to get back to me. But at $58 per 1000 is a rip off - we can get them for $50 per 1000 on ebay and only have to buy 1000, not 25k or 100k?

thats becasue ebay is an auction, they arent making much on 50 bucks per 100. Even when they get 100,000 in on a container, they still pay around .03 cents per. They are making their money on shipping. Dont think that hoffman prices are too mcuh, they are good quality and are brand new. Alot of ones on ebay are used!!

We have around 350,000 tokens in stock. They are used silver in color, in nice shape. These are the same ones we sell on ebay in lots of 500 & 1000 and also send free with our machines. Our best price is $.039 cents each + shipping. Thank you, David
