Default DDK - Cotton Ball Mod

Already a few topics on this...but does anyone have some specific info on how to get the cotton balls in to the speakers on this machine? I'm finding it difficult to figure out what all needs to be removed to gain access to the speakers in the front.

Great machine BTW (from Milt) :-P

I suppose a reply is still warranted...but I just figured out that I had the volume set on HIGH...

    Holy crap!

That was loud...this is much better.

Yeah, but for me even "low" is "holy crap loud!"

That is why I always do an L-Pad mod.

All was fine until I dumped about 500 tokens into it this morning...I knew I was getting close because the upper drum was spinning awfully close into the "King" symbol.

Then it happened...I hit a BB with three blue 7's and the machine went nuts. I live in an apartment and I thought I was going to be in trouble. Kind of difficult feelings to deal with at that moment. On one hand I'm excited I finally hit a big payout and on the other I'm trying to keep the machine from being so loud.

Wow...I know its just spitting out tokens, but this is addicting.

If your in an apartment I would strongly suggest adding a volume of some type. You bought it from Stealth so you might call them and ask them if they have a preferred method.

    If you go cotton balls
each speaker has 4 screws, 1 in each corner, take out two of them next to each other, losen the other two, this should allow you to push in 2 or three cotton balls.
    reverse the above to close.
Do it to each one. Now the best cotton balls are from the tails of Playboy bunnies, but sadly, they are all gone  , so use the over the counter ones.

We can pretty much get away with the low volume setting on the DDK. When I first posted this...the volume setting was on 'high' and I thought that the setting was on 'low' just because the switch was in the 'down' position. After I hit my first BB, I was scared to even attempt to try the other positions on the volume toggle for fear that the walls would come crashing down. After discovering the 'low' setting, it is much better. Just not something you would want to get into at 11pm with neighbors around.

I would like to try Arby's cotton ball method, but on my DDK...I can only find one screw to remove (on each top/front speaker). It appears that the bonus 3 reel drum is blocking access to the other screws needed to access the speakers. I haven't worked up enough ambition to go digging around enough to maybe remove that section to see if I can find the screws Arby is talking about.

Can anyone tell me if its necessary to remove the bonus 3 reel drum to get access to what Arby is talking about? Arby?

there is a lot of hardware to remove to get at the speakers,

boards on each side and likely the top reels.

i don't know if speaker covers would come off from the front without breaking them.

i would say go with l-pads if you need it quiter.

in this case it would be easier.
