    Default Best source for tokens?

    Hello all,

when I check ebay, there are a number of people selling tokes. Some are new, others are used. Some are silver, others are bi-metal, some are gold.

Prices range from $9.95 for 500 to $44.99 for 500 (plus shipping).

Is there a difference in tokens? What would you look for when buying lets say 1000 tokens?

    Thanks for your advice.

    Cheers,

    Miklos

KEEP AWAY from the copper ones!!! They will jam your machine.

What I look for is a good deal. Most of us like used ones for the nostalgia.

There are some tokens with cherries on them that are floating around ebay and various sites. They're cheap and don't work very well. They have too much iron content, and will get stuck on the magnets in your coin mechanism if your machine has one. They're also thiner than the official tokens and don't speed load well. They have a lot of dirt or something on them from the plating process that won't come off as well. You can make them work by moving the magnet in your coin mechanism back, but they still don't speed load well. Just keep that in mind if you buy them.

I have had good luck with the tokens from Hiro, and Stealth.

Ditto what John said. Your best bets are the Japanese tokens, not the American replacements. Most Japanese tokens are nickel plated brass or similar material, while others are gold, or bi-metal.

I have gotten lucky on ebay in the past doing searches for token 'lots.' If you find a large lot of similar size tokens, there are several token enthusiast websites out there that you can search for the token and obtain the dimensions. Our machines use a .984" token or 25mm. For instance, many arcade tokens like Chuck E. Cheese are .984".

Price wise, your best deal will be around 4 cents a piece including shipping. We have a member here that sold lots of 1,500 a year ago for 3 cents each w/shipping. That was a steal. Just keep your eyes open on ebay, and be patient.
