Default The obsession continues - Sankyo Pochi

Well, it's offical, I'm addicted now.

I placed an ad on Craig's list in the items wanted section for pachinkos and a lady responded. After some discussion about the game I decided to go see the game and possibly purchase it. After seeing the game I decided to puchase even though she didn't plug it in for me and she didn't know if it worked or not. She did include about 400 balls with it. She originally wanted $30 but I was feeling guilty because it came with a ball tray and a table top cabinet so I have her $35. Dang, I'm nice!

I brought it home and plugged it in and began to experiment with it. After it 'loosened' up a bit it seemed to do ok... except the payout stopped working correctly after the first few times. I opened the inside and found a lot of balls jammed up so I removed what I could and tried it again. Well, it appears that didn't resolve the problem.

So... my adventure begins with a new machine! YEAH!

I've included some photos so hopefully some of you wise old Pachinko folks can tell me about it.

    More later,

It was released around 1990, the first machine designed by the women of Sankyo (The Women of Sankyo, sounds like a calendar? ).

There's a Poochie I and II made in 1990 and a CR Poochie SP and Poochie DX made in 2005 (according to Sankyo - Uchi no Pochie).

Although anything in Japan is 'vintage' after it's first 3 years, I still consider this one early modern, because of the shooter knob.

I will be working on it more this weekend and will post more photos and the results of my repair efforts. It is extremely dusty and highly suspect there is dirt / dust / crud / bugs / etc. in the jackpot area that is causing the problems.

Thanks for all the replies and information, especially the date of manufacture estimate!

Nice machine and great price! None of my machines were made after the late 1970's, but I am keeping an eye out for a an "early modern" machine at the right price. Actually, I don't know why I'm looking for any machine...I've got more than I need right now!

First let me say thanks to all who have helped me on my new machine.

I finally found all the problem which consisted of dust, dirt and few missed connections between on component and another. Once I was brave enough to open the machine and pull off a few parts, I quickly discovered the problems and all were simple to fix.

I did determine that the jackpot motor always runs from what I've read, observations of the system and conversations with various memebers here. You guys are the greatest!

Now, I have to either, 'tighten' it back up, or build/buy a ball lifter as I'm getting fever mode to often and it drains the hopper really quick.

Thanks again to all who have helped!

My Poochie finally showed up (thank you Rubberrat)!

Everything seems to work fine, only 1 or 2 lights out. One thing I noticed though was that the dog's legs seem too loose. In order to get into bonus mode, a ball has to go all the way to the back top of the center section, where it rolls to the center rear and down a tube to come out between the dogs legs. However, I believe that the legs should hold the ball in place (as long as they aren't moving), till they do move and allow the ball to roll down the center hopefully into the center 'V' pocket. Right now, even the light weight of a single ball pushes them apart enough to let it through. The only reason I feel they should be tighter is because for the bonus to get to the next round, a single ball has to go into the 'V' each time. Each time a ball goes into this pocket, it progresses to the next round. If 3 balls go in in succession, it will advance 3 rounds, regardless of whether any balls go in the other two pockets. I just pulled the cel and will pull it apart to see, will keep anyone interested informed.

Hey compirate, do you have the same version of Pochi that I do?

In mine the doggies legs are also loose and does allow for any number of balls to roll through and these will of course advance the bonus round counter. However, this maybe by design. Here's my thoughts...

In order to start the first bonus round or advance to the next round (and thus keep the fever going) a ball must roll into the "V" (as we all know). However, the EASIEST way for this to happen is for the ball to roll to back of the doggie and then down and out between his legs. This is complicated by the fact that the only way the balls can get to the back is when the ears are lifted AND the ears are only lifted during the last few seconds of the current bonus round. Therefore, the play is to push as many balls as you can through during the first part of the round and then when the last few seconds come up, only send one through in order to get to the V and advance only ONE round. Too many during the final seconds causes you to advance through multiple rounds and therefore LOSE the benefit of the missed rounds. Thus the player gets to have multiple bonus rounds but the HOUSE get's the chance for the player to lose a round or two and therefore not win as many balls back.

That's my thoughts. I am thinking that way because of my older Sankyo (same maker) PowerFlash machine is a 'teaser' too where if your skilled you can make many multiple jackpots, but the house has a chance to stop the run of jackpots if you hit the wrong pocket (Joker).

Just my thoughts. I sure wish we had some one on the board that played the machines where they were new and in the original parlours.

I see what your saying, now that I have it up close to see. Well, it needed a cleaning anyway!

The center feature has no less than 5 solenoids - 2 for the wings, 1 for the 'tail wag', 1 for the head/ears/legs in one direction, 1 legs other direction. Lots of incandescents and LED's. It will be interesting to see how bright it is after cleaning.

Below is the unit from the front and the back, plus my own poochie, appears to be saying the same thing I do - "What the hell are you lookin at?"

Wow, you are so much braver than I to tear into that machine! Your center looks exactly like mine, so I'm assuming we have the same machine.

My machine had a bad bulb or two around the outside frame. These bulbs have not screw in or twist in base.. just two wires sticking out. There is not writing on them. Do you know what voltage they are and who sells them?

    Thanks!

Yeah, it's the Pochie I. Easier than you'd think to pull it, 1 screw to remove the clear cover, unplug 3 plugs in the back and remove 5 screws from the front of the cell. Working it out the front is a little interesting I'm just a little nervous taking the rest apart, gotta take a lot of pics.

The lights with the silicone base? As far as I know, they're all 28VAC. Haven't found a source yet.

wrkey, you are absolutely right about the legs. I finally found time to get it apart and tightened the legs (non-destructive, resettable to original) and they are nowhere near holding a ball. I suppose the looseness provides some action in the legs when the ball goes through. Now if I can remember how to put it back together!
