    you don't want to damage the nail heads.

    if you use a regular hammer, you may want to hold something over the nail to ease the blow.

    anyone else have some suggestions???

    A brass or tack hammer or plastic head hammer would be my choice

    I use a small ball pein hammer with a piece of leather tie rapped around the head, new leather section as it wears through, usually takes about 3-4 locations for a complete machine nail replacement.

    i have jewlers hammers and soft tapping device but no nails to install :/
    i want new nails.. this appears to be harder than expected.
