    Default The Best HOT DOG...IMHO

So, Where is the best Hot dog? Does it come from a Chain or a local Mom and Pop store. For me? it's a tie..

In Evanston, Il...near Dyche Stadium where the Northwestern Wildcats play, there is a place called "Mustards Last Stand" Great Hot Dogs.

The other Place that ties Mustards...Beleave it or not...Home Depot.

Superdawg, which deserves its place in the 1,000 Places to Visit Before You Die listing has had continuous carhop service for 50+ years and hasn't varied its menu all that much. It serves you a first-rate dog in a box with fries. One of the finest examples of Chicago dogs. Hot Dougs and FredHots (in the near North suburbs) have more exotic hot dog fare and appeal to foodie fanatics, but Superdawg is the real deal

I will not ever eat at this DQ again.

The best dog I have had was a buffalo dog from a local vendor that sells at the Thursday market in my little town.

When I was growing up it was Louie's Hot Dog in Wheeling, West Virginia. They had about a billion different styles of hot dogs, all very good. Sad to say, Wheeling is in decline and I think Louie's has moved locations but still worth searching out.

Yum! Hot dogs! I worship thee!

The best hot dogs I ever ate were from Atman's deli on Lombard Street in Baltimore back in the '60's and 70's. They served it on a fresh baked yellow roll with a slice of grilled bologna! The whole family would go and we would eat them with Almond Smash soda! I've lived in Baltimore since 1959 and Lombard Street has really gone down hill. Atman's is still there, but their hot dogs aren't as good. Something happened to the recipe like maybe they don't smoke the dogs as long or don't use enough garlic or good enough meat. I love to watch the PBS documentary about hot dog joints occasionally - it's an hour long and includes at least one of the places mentioned in this post, "Superdawg".

Maybe I'll make it to Pottstown to try out "The Very Best Wiener Shop".

    Wee! Hot dog memories!

Now here's a topic I can sink my teeth into... Sorry...

Best Hot Dog here would be from a little place in downtown OKC called "Coney Island". Hot dog with Mustard, Cheese, Onions and Chili Sauce. Its been there for 50+ years and still going strong.

Also he has an excellent "Greek Spagetti" - Noodles with Chili, Onions, and Cheese.

i had to give it up for the board.. cant run a forum and a deli at the same time...

for me there are 2 places with Great Hotdogs here in no particular order

    1) IKEA
    2) A Canteen at Mavili Square in Athens (next to the American embassy)
this canteen opens up at 9:30 pm is and serves the night crowd..
    it is always busy!
the hotdogs they sell are not exactly what you would call traditional dogs..

they consist of boiled hotdog with steamed bun.
carrot/cabbage/ a special sauce made from onions/ mustard and mayo. it may sound like a train wreck that was my initial thought when they were introduced to me.. but man oh man is that all an awesome mix... this coming from a guy who only likes mustard and chopped onion on his hotdogs..

Mind you the worst thing about Home made hotdogs is not getting a decent hotdog bun.. they got to be soft... none of those almost soft varieties
