Well those BBC updates have been quite interesting this morning, a couple of stops and starts, little glitches with the 2nd anti-clockwise beam,

But it's just been confirmed that both beams have now been successful around the LHC

I suppose we won't really know if we get to survive, until they start those beams travelling at the same time and fast enough to smash particles into each other

It happened about 1:30(CST) last night! (the first attempt) They had a streaming video feed on their website, but obviously they didn't plan ahead so there were too many people accessing it and limited bandwidth.. But as Hanabi stated, they are attempting more than once...

I woke from a peaceful sleep to a loud and disturbing rumble... it got worse, then I heard the screaming...

I could barely see through the morning fog in my brain, but I tried to make out the cause of the chaos. Then I remembered the predictions of the day and the CERN came to mind immediately.

But, alas, it was just another typical morning at my house with my teenage daughters fighting over eye make-up and hair accessories!

Today was the test of sending a beam around to make sure everything works together and the accelerator does its job... I think the middle of October is when they turn it on and start crashing particles and causing black holes...
