I have Dish Network and my bill is $138.00 but that includes every channel they have (HD, sports, all movie channels, locals, and equipment). I have 2 HD DVRs, and 2 standard HD receivers. The only channels I don't have are the PPV, international, and adult channels. Not too bad compared to what my comcast digital cable bill was without anything but the basic, and no HD.

I think it is the yellow one in the last picture or the blue/white & orange/white ones in the other pictures.

Well now, this thread sure has drifted into an internet service comparison, but the original question was about AT&T's U-Verse service, so back to that topic now...

I can't comment on the service as I'm not a subscriber, however the company I work for creates the content for AT&T. I'm on the R&D team ("Content & Media Engineering"), and that was one of our projects, along with AppleTV, VuDu, and a few others.

We run our own deployment server, and use the actual set-top boxes to QC all content shipped to AT&T, so we don't get the full user experience a subscriber would get.

IPTV is the future. What iTunes and downloadable music has done for the music industry, IPTV will do for the video industry. Sure, discs will be around for a while, but as bandwidth to the home increases, hard drive sizes increase, and price drops, quality will exceed that of discs.

Just like consumers have chosen the convenience of an MP3 over the quality of a CD, IPTV provides the same convenience for video, though it's quality is not as good as DVD (for SD) or Blu-ray (for HD), yet.

All of the IPTV services have recently started offering HD. They're all using 720p for now, but we've been playing with 1080p in the lab. The U-Verse box will play 1080p, there's just no 1080p content being deployed yet.

i had IPTV for over a year here, unfortunately the ISP providing the service was inconsistant and it made it nearly impossible to enjoy it.
it was very nice to be able to watch whatever movie you wanted from the ISP's movie library and not have to worry about returning the movie rental..

but without the consistant internet connection it really sucked..
