Smile "I play Deji pachi" :D

My goodness I never knew The Pogues had this track!!

    It's in my head now...

"I play Deji Pachi, I play deji pachi in my pachinko Dream..."

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RDO-0eqsCQ

    it even has the Lyrics...

    I'm walking down Roppongi
The night is hot and smoggy
    I drink a little coffee
    A sake and a beer
I run into a ginja man
He speaks but I don't understand
He grins at me and takes my hand
    And whispers in my ear

    I play Deji Pachi
    I play Deji Pachi
    I play Deji Pachi
    In my Pachinko dream
    I go Uchi Domi
    I go Uchi Domi
    I go Uchi Domi
    In my Pachinko dream

    My senses all asunder
I stand and stare in wonder
There's bright light and there's thunder
    In Pachinko land

Well versed in the way of Zen
My pockets lined full of yen
I walk the aisle and back again
    And sit at Domo's hand

    I play Deji Pachi
    I play Deji Pachi
    I play Deji Pachi
    In my Pachinko dream
    I go Uchi Domi
    I go Uchi Domi
    I go Uchi Domi
    In my Pachinko dream

    I'm on the lexus fever
My hand tight on the lever
    I'm shrieking like a diva
    Staring in a trance

Turn the handle to the right
A stream of silver balls in flight
It screams and howls a blaze of light
    The earth moves below me
I'm laughing tears of sheer delight
    As I go Uchi Domi

    I play Deji Pachi
    I play Deji Pachi
    I play Deji Pachi
    In my Pachinko dream
    I go Uchi Domi
    I go Uchi Domi
    I go Uchi Domi
    In my Pachinko dream

Sorry to bump an old thread but by favorite genre of music is the Irish/Punk/Celtic scene (Dropkick Murphys, The Tossers, The Killigans, Flogging Molly, etc.) and I've even seen the Pogues in concert once but I never knew about this song.

So...Now that I can't get that song out of my head, I need to know what Uchi Domi means.

I believe it's synonymous with "fever."
Here's a link I found you have to scroll down a bit.

It's actually Uchi-Dome (打ち止め), and it refers to the state of a pachinko game in which the machine must be reset (in the parlours, by the Attendant) after a set number of won balls come out. It's often used in reference to older Hanemono machines and was used to limit total wins (parlour losses) on a per machine basis.

When a machine entered 'Uchidome' mode, the machine could no longer be played and the parlour would have to manually reset it for use again. Usually, the player who sent the machine Uchidome was not allowed to replay that same machine that day. Then the parlour would also place a 'flag' on that machine to let other players know it had gone Uchidome, presumably so that other players knew the parlour had 'hot' machines and to lure them in.

Eric Sedensky talks about parlours auctioning off these Uchidome machines to the highest bidder before they were released for play again - as the nails were still setup as before, presumably you too could then win on this machine. I never saw that in my time in Japan, but he spent a lot longer in parlours than I did!!
There is always another machine around the corner...
