I have the first 3 Evangelion's, I like the look of 2nd impact best but for game play Eva 3 miracles is by far the champ.

of course Eva 4 looks like it blows just about any other pachinko ever made out of the lineup.

I need to start a fund for it myself...

I just finished watching Last Exile, and loved it. Evangelion is everyone's favorite! Evangelion 4 is still relatively new in Japan, so the flood of machines to the rest of the world hasn't started. I'll most likely get one of those... I'd love to have all 4 of them, but there's that space issue.

I'm not really convinced Evangelion 4 is worth the price over version 3.

From what I can tell, there's the same number of modes. Almost the same number of reaches (ri-chi)... A different fever mode... OK. And I'm getting what for my extra $2000? A new frame.

Now it's a -great- frame, but it's also single use. It's only Evangelion. (Apparently they figured they were making so much money on the first three they'd just burn a pile to make their own custom. Not like they'd miss it with the profits from this license. ^^)

As much as I do love the series, I just can't justify it when I can get version 3 for a fraction of the cost AND swap it in and out of my Lumina frame (in which Indy currently resides).

So basically, if you have the money and you'd never get tired of Evangelion (certainly I'd consider the purchase a few years down the road) go for it. Otherwise, for the next two to three years, I'd grab a version 3 instead.

for the most part I agree, Eva 3 is the best bang for the buck but Eva 4 is so well done

Ok so Eva 4 is still in JP and has not made it over to NA, for under 800.00 - gottcha. I think either EVA 3 or possibly EVA 4 will be the next pachinko for me - unless by a manga miracle - macross gets developed into a machine ( here's to wishful dreaming )

Eva 1 and 2 are still really nice machines and they wouldn't cost you a small fortune.

I'm very happy with my Eva 1.

Yeah, isn't it actually called the 'Eva Frame'? I remember seeing that somewhere...

And I guess that doesn't mean you _can't_ swap cells with other (maybe newer) games, but it might look a little odd...

I don't think any other cells are configured for that frame. It's not just a custom exterior as far as I can tell. You can't put the cell into any other frame and vice versa.

Maybe down the road they'll make another cell for that frame (Evangelion 5?), but otherwise... there doesn't seem to be much of a market for it.

Well, I haven't seen the frame in person, just the photos... But, yeah, I was thinking down the road... They made a custom volcano theme case for Jurassic Park, and then re-used it in weird yellow/red color schemes for other games, and made other cells that work in it.

It might just be cells further down the line if it's really unique 'behind the scenes'. If they sell tons of them though, there might be a market for cell replacements for it.

Sure, it would probably look a little odd with the Eva stuff all over it (I think it even has the Nerv logo on the shooter knob, doesn't it?), but that might not stop them from trying...

Logo's also on the chance button... the ball rental buttons are molded in eva style... It's really a beautiful machine by all rights. Sadly, it's so customized I have a hard time seeing new uses for it.

The Kyoraku Volcano frame did ship out with Jurrasic Park, but that was just a new frame introduction.

I think a better example would be the blue frame for New Sea Story. That's also a custom, but it's been out for a couple years now. To my knowledge, no new game was ever made for it.

Note:
New Sea Story is perhaps the most popular version of pachinko within Japan for some odd reason or another. I wouldn't hesitate to put it above the Evangelion popularity... or Winter Sonata, or any other for that matter. It's the only one I've ever seen that regularly has full sections in parlors devoted to the game. (Not just an aisle... We're talking multi-aisle wings with custom ball trays and marine wall painting/decorations.)

According to the frame manual it is indeed called the 'Eva' Frame.

There's nothing to stop Bisty from releasing other games using what is essentially the same frame, but using different plastic mouldings for the front. So you could find that the next custom frame machine is actually a cell swap in the Eva frame.

So it is Bisty? My mistake! I guess I was thinking about the new Yamato series machine which is now Fuji instead of Sankyo. Man, I've been inhaling too many cleaning fumes lately!
