Default How did Dawn of the Fantasy get passed up here?

There was a previous thread on this machine and it went off topic so quickly that the most insightful comment was:

"Understandable, since Maryanne was WAY hotter than that sleaze Ginger."

So, I think it's time for a reintroduction since I played this back when I was in Japan. Especially since Kiai is ordering it for me as my first import machine (hoping to win on YJA in the next few days).

Dawn of the Fantasy (or Pachi Que) is a full role-playing game squeezed into a pachinko machine.

    http://www.sansei-rd.com/products04/...mg/spec_02.jpg

There's a full world you travel through (multiple backgrounds).

    http://www.sansei-rd.com/products04/.../img/st_04.jpg

You get into mini-battles along the way and level up your character (maximum level is 99 and the 77 in the top picture is where your level is displayed). You might even acquire an item or two along the way:

    http://www.sansei-rd.com/products04/...mg/mini_01.jpg

There's also 24 characters that can talk to you and give advice. Of course... it would be rather boring without a variety of monsters to fight (103 in all! 20 Types! 3 Special!):

    http://www.sansei-rd.com/products04/...mg/mons_02.jpg

(Look at the cute little Marumons in the top row... ^^)

And did I mention... Every single battle is a mini-game! One of four depending on which item you have. And there's a few other big mini-games (in addition to a dozen or so Story missions you can complete):

    http://www.sansei-rd.com/products04/...g/reach_05.jpg

If you're not a fan of interactivity in your machines, you'll hate the boss battles:

    http://www.sansei-rd.com/products04/...mg/mons_09.jpg

There are 4 types of bosses (each with levels of difficulty) and 2 special. All animated in full, of course. During the battle, you need to tap the button (same as on the CR Ferrari) multiple times to fill up your attack meter before the boss strikes you first. There can be multiple turns as well.

Finally (and I think this is pretty neat) there's an ending in the game. Win 10 times in a row and you're treated to a full ending movie. Play as many times as you want of course. ^^

So... That's what I ordered. Please pardon my flagrant abuse of iFrames. It was the only way to include pictures inline with the text.

that is one hell of a nice machine! does the japanese text take away from the story or function of the mini games at all?
This game induces a kind of hypnosis, a strange feeling of happiness. Winning is hardly important. But, time passes. You lose touch with yourself for a while, and merge with a machine and perhaps you forget, what you always wanted to forget.....

Not particularly. The interactiveness basically boils down to:

    1) Mini-battle: Tap real fast, tap at the right time
    2) Boss Battle: Tap real fast
    3) Mini-game: Select Card / Marumon / Treasure Chest

And then there's one more which is select the attack you use against the main villain (demon) during the first few rounds of a fever (Version CA or DA only. I'm getting BA which is the more frequent win version and only 8 rounds instead of 15). That one's the only one that might be confusing, but you can figure it out relatively painlessly.

The 24-odd characters will make no sense when they pop in, though. You'll basically think: "I can't read that." But they don't affect the story so much as they signal your chance to win depending on what they say.

The story itself is extraordinarily simplistic:

Princess gets captured by demon. You defeat the demon or are defeated in the fever rounds (difference between chance time of 50 spins or guaranteed next fever mode). If you win 10 times in a row, you save the princess.

    She gets captured again.

Go out and battle once more!

Ah... Not actually the princess. Common mistake though. I mean a lot of bunny eared women in fantasy are princesses right?

Here's the actual princess (top right):
