Default MP3 Player to a pachislo

With all the wonderful Customs, Is there any way to "trigger" an MP3 player from a pachislo? The speakers would be connected to the player, and when ever there was a signal coming from the original sound board to the speakers, it would go to the mp3 player, causing it to play a custom tune,sound,effect...etc.

Beeps, Boops, and wizzles would be a great start for the R2 Pachislo Mod.

This has been discussed several times here, but I don't think it has ever been accomplished by anyone here at PT. It would be very cool if it was!

I've looked into this kind of thing as well, even got as far as getting the development kit for a mp3 player chipset, but haven't had the time to take a look at it in enough detail to see if it would be a suitable base for this sort of thing. The thing I'm most concerned about is the seek delay between something occurring that is supposed to trigger a sound effect and the mp3 chip finding the appropriate track on the SD card and starting playback. If the delay is too long, then the whole thing isn't going to sound right.

The other potential problem I can see, is getting hold of suitable triggers from the machine, the data going to the sound board is likely to be proprietary and very complicated to decode so is probably a non-starter. To make it a bit more universal I expect you could monitor the stop buttons, some of the lamps and maybe even the drive to the reel and hopper motors and assign sound effects to each one. You should also be able to get some good triggers from the battle counter outputs to detect if you're in a bonus round and modify the sound effects appropriately.

BB and I were discussing just that the other day and I will poke him with it when I see him on saturday, See you there @ 10 NIT. I am already piping my mp3 player to a string of machines as a background track at the shows I do. But the concept you were talking about came up with the discussion about Stop boards. I am told that the relays on the stop boards are specifically tagged to each type of Jackpot. If that is true, I dont think it would be hard to tag in EXACTLY what you are talking about. I was going to set up a rough prototype and actually ship it out to DaveRob for his thoughts and re-development. I can make it work but I think He would be able to actually engineer it into the next generation of dongles, using a single player and pulses to actuate it. Mine would actually be a string of 20 second VOX chips programmed for what I want. I think it would be easier to use hard memory and that type of setup than an MP3 player itself. RadioShack sells the 20 second recordable kits in 9v setup for about 20 bucks. I have a couple and am going to use that for my test.

I think FTK has a custom the plays music every time the spin knob is pressed.

DaveRob...You hit exactly what the back of my tiny mind was thinking...Would there be a delay in the MP3 Player to get to the right track? and how do you trigger that specific track?

Also, I love the fact the you mentioned...Triggers such as the spin knob, buttons, battle counter...I didn't even think of that. Wow...this could be possible!

One last note...I used MP3 Player as a generic (my bad) term. There are a lot of websites that sell other devices to record digital audio. I found quite a few that provide chips to play back in "greeting cards", "Advertising posters", etc.

Cost wise??? Who knows? A chip (player) for each trigger? Possible.

It may help the ones who do conversions (Mods) find a way to put a personal sound to the slot machine.

    Just around my face BB.

Ok New, how was the drive home? I LOVE that drive. I made it twice a week a couple of years ago. I enjoyed the solitude and time to think.

Thumbs up Re: MP3 Player to a pachislo

Some rain here and there. Stopped at about 100 miles on the way back up to top off the gas. While paying for the golden liquid a youngster that had just paid for some munchies grabbed 2 extra packs of cheese crackers off the shelf on the way out.

The gentleman behind me mentioned it out loud to the counter girls. The kid jumped into a PT Cruiser and off the 4 of them went. By the time I paid for the gas and went to the Micky D's next door an FHP car was at the gas station.

Got back on I-95 north and about two miles up the road another FHP cruiser had the PT Cruiser pulled over.

    Justice was Served.

teqkng, don't forget to PM me your email for the booklet.

Made it back up in just under 5 hours even with the gas and food stop. Averaged about 5 MPH faster on the return trip and my roller skate got around 47 MPG for the return trip which was 5 MPG better than the trip down at the lower speed.

210,00 miles on it and the Tomato can still amazes me.

Ok folks i think the best way to do the change of tunes is to find Eprom that the music on and proto board hook up with a computer and see how they format the music and then line up your music bits and burn them on a new eprom . Just a thought
