    Default Tango Bros power supply

I picked up a tango bros and found a 12V transformer installed, but wired backwards. I used a 24V transformer wired correctly and it draws a lot of current then pops the thermal fuse in the transformer after maybe 30 seconds. Nothing inside the power supply appears burnt and nothing gets hot. Is this possibly a 100V machine? If not I am looking for a power supply or have some nice parts for someone's Tango.

    Thanks
    Jack

I believe Tango Brothers Pachislo is a 100v model. It is made by Abilit/Takasago. All of the machines by Abilit/Takasago that I can find in the various databases run on 100v including 007 which is in the same chassis.

The database I saw lists 007 as a 24V machine. I got brave and hooked it up to 110V. It blew a trace off the board between the power connector and the power switch connector. I would have expected a blown up capacitor or fried component but the circuit board failed. patched it up and tried again with 24v and 100v. same things happened. wierd stuff.

On a serious side , if the Japanese machine had a 12vdc transformer i would get a transformer with an input of 110v ac and the output 12vdc with the proper amperage rating after you repair the blown trace .

Strange... My guess is that someone may have damaged it somehow connecting the 12v transformer to it. You said it was backward 12v side connected to 110v, and 110v connected to the machine? I wonder what that would output?

The voltages are listed here for many machines. It has been correct when I have used it in the past.

    http://aeallc.com/pachislo/pachislodata/index.html

It is an old dead site, but the information is still good.

Also, I would have figured it would blow a fuse before the board. That is just odd... I would contact stealthhomeamusement.com and have them send you a new PSU. I think they were around $25.00. They should be able to confirm the voltage for you as well.

I have never seen a 12vdc Pachislo... That would be a first for me. I have only seen 24vac and 100vac machines. Unless it was modified somehow? My guess is that the PSU is just dead, and causing everyone to scratch their heads.

Ok I did some digging on the power supply board. The zener diode is shorted (common failure state). So it may have saved the rest of the power supply and the other electronics. If I can figure out a replacement I have some hope. Have already contacted stealth about a new power supply. Numbers on the zener diode are S (manufacturer?) 26056 9an
So if anyone has any insight it would be appreciated. its not an industry standard number.

    Thanks Jack

Don't know if this will help.

    May be a 1n4002. 100 volt 1 Amp Diode if it's a 100 volt machine.

1n4002, Electrical Test Equipment, Business Industrial items on eBay.com

Here are some 24 volt Diodes :

I agree with what MrGOODBURN stated. : "I believe Tango Brothers Pachislo is a 100v model. It is made by Abilit/Takasago. All of the machines by Abilit/Takasago that I can find in the various databases run on 100v including 007 which is in the same chassis."

I have not seen an Abilit/Takasago machine that was not 100 volt.

These are two Pic's of the Power supply in my Death Valley which is an Abilit/Takasago machine. Does this Power supply look the same as yours?

Talking Re: Tango Bros power supply

    IT LIVES!!!

Basically what shorted out in the power supply was a "transient voltage suppressor" (two zener diodes cathode to cathode) anything above 26VAC the TVS diode dissappated the load. When a zener diode fails it usually fails in the shorted condition. This is definately a 24Vac machine. Other than some lights, it works beautifully. Thanks for the input guys.
