There was a recent thread about those I think... I'm sure they're the high quality they claim to be, but you'll still have the audio distortion problem. Up to you if you can live with that or not...

    Agreed...

A pot is still a pot; it's not made for this application.

It will work, but I'm picky about sound, and overly cautious when it comes to my machines.

I've had my say in the other recent thread and pretty much exhausted my rant quota for this month, so I was determined to keep out of this thread but...

The amount of BS in this eBay listing is amazing (even for Slot-Pachinko / texasauction standards). I actually laughed out loud on the paragraph that explains that they tried to find a solution that was appropriate for '24v technology'. Anyone with even the smallest amount of electrical engineering experience should be able to smell the brown stuff whilst reading it.

Besides (and I'm repeating myself here) carbon track potentiometers cannot handle the power output of some pachinko machines when the volume is set to high. They cannot dissipate the heat that will be concentrated over a very small percentage of the track area, and are much more likely to burn up than a similarly rated cermet pot.

Seriously Daverob... for all of your excellent contributions to this site, I think you are entitled to a rant every once in a while!

LOL - Here I was, trying to be PC, especially after that last thread, and along comes daverob! Glad I didn't have anything in my mouth when I read your reply, or it'd be all over the monitor right now!

I think we actually came to an overall conclusion that we all agreed to in the last thread, the best way to regulate the volume is to do it on a line level basis that way there is no heat dissipation to worry about. you need some technical ability to make those modifications in many cases where the amp is located on the main board OR the it is a digital signal to the amp.

three step plan on installing volume controls on a Lumina frame

    1. open glass

    2. insert sock or hankerchief

    3. close glass

At this point I would have to agree with daverob on the volume control issue. We have all had our say, and it's time to just drop it.

Yes, Slot-Pachinko is full of BS on the ad for their volume controls. They spent 3 years, and 1000's of dollars to find a pot that I could get at my local electronics store.

Daverob is right, the BS about the voltage is nuts. If they are dumb enough to actually think the voltage going in to the machine has anything to do with choosing a volume control; I really don't think these guys are qualified to be working on any electronic device.

I trust daverobs opinion when it comes to these machines. He probably knows the electronics on these machines better than anyone else here. If he says it's safe to use a pot as a volume control, then it must be.

For those of you who are tired of the whole volume control debate; don't get me started on boxers vs. briefs!
