    Default What is it?

I have finally acquired a pachinko machine. As a kid I save up for one, but it was broken. Returned and exchanged for yet another broken machine. A poor wee bugger I was. 20 years later I picked one up on e-bay that was not what the seller advertised. Now I have one that works!

It came to the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) from Japan in the 70's. The PNE's machines were purchased by Woodwards and sold to the public. I picked this up a month back from a local guy who purchased it from Woodwards about 25 years or so ago. A couple of hours of tinkering/cleaning was all that was needed to get it to work.

It's made by Newgin, but that's all I know. Most of the balls are from the same parlor.

Can anyone tell me anything about it? Age?

How about a good source for balls in the Vancouver area? John's Jukes (Pachinko games tech. info, and for sale) has them for US$20 for 100 (US$150 for 1000). That seems steep to me.

    Any info is helpful,

    Thanks muchly,

    Trav

Not a lot going on in the center, but lots of pockets, very nice!

That's a good looking machine! ...I'm also new to collecting pachinko's - but I think I can answer your questions. Based on the pictures you posted (tax stamps) it appears your machine was manufactured in December of 1973.

And you're correct - that's asking a LOT for balls. Take a look on e-bay. I was able to get 2,000 balls for $64 including shipping. That works out to be about $0.03 per ball.

Sorry I don’t know anything specifically about Newgin machines.

Based on the tags on the front you can see two sets of English numbers, fifty-one and twelve. Twelve stands for the month and fifty-one stands for the Japanese year Syouwa 51. This means the machine was only licensed to be in a parlor until 1976. Licenses are always for three years. This means your machine was made or released to a parlor in December of 1973.

    Hope this helps.

SunKing, chmer02 - Thanks for the dating on my Newgin! I can't wait to show it my brother...it's older than he is...lol.

The modern machines look slick compared to my vintage. Maybe I'll have to acquire one to compare.

My 6 year old son is telling me more about it everyday..."Dad! I'm outta balls again!" Five minutes later..."Dad! You need to fill the hopper!" He informed me that a 10 ball payout isn't enough and that if he places his thumb and finger above the door pull, that it's just right to drop the ball into the center of the field. He also informed his mom that since it had an ashtray built into it, that it's OK for folks to smoke when they come over...as long as they're playing pachinko. He's getting more use that I am!

My kids are the reason I started this latest 'craze'. I have a 7yr old girl and 3yr old son. They were arguing over who oculd play...so...I had to get another machine! ...and another... and another.

I have 4 now, and have plans to make one wall of my office into a pachinko parlor. ...the barstools are on oder.

    It's a bit addictive...you've been warned.
