UPS has damaged two out of three machines they have shipped to me.
So far, Fedex hasn't hurt one yet... knock on wood.

Oh that is upsetting for you,

I really hope your claim gets sorted out quickly and that you find a way to get it back to perfect working order again...

I say we should be able to insure them for whatever we want, not just the 'value' of the machine (we're paying for it, right?).
If they had to pay a few $10,000 claims, they might take better care of it!

Technically you can insure an item for any amount..

but the premiums that go with that amount are also increased.

if you guys thought lawyers where bad... Insurance agencies are worse...

they will find a way to nickel and dime you out of whatever you had it insured for..

That's true, however you must show an invoice when making a claim, so you only get the invoice amount, not the insured amount.

To make matters worse; I just received a reply from Hiro, and the machine was not insured. He has offered a refund and a prepaid return label, but that means both of us are out something. I will let my work handle the claim, and see if they can do something anyway. This was negligence on UPS's part, and should be covered anyway. We will see... Hiro also, offered to refund the cost of the cabinet if I want to keep the machine, but I am not sure I can fix it yet. That would be a lot of money for a broken machine.

It's just strange how these machines can survive a container trip across the ocean, but not a 300 mile UPS trip across the state.

I bet they noticed it wasn't insured, and tossed it around intentionally. I say we all protest UPS until they start to show a little more care with our items.

I have seen the same thing as Steve. Many of my machines were delivered by FedEx, and all of them have survived. UPS has damaged many items for me in the past.

One of our shipping guys has seen UPS drivers physically throw packages in the back of their trucks. He said he sees it all the time. Our receiving guy who was there when they delivered my machine said it was delivered on the big truck, and that nothing was secured down with load locks, and that boxes were all over the floor of the truck.

    It's 100% pure carelessness!

I definetely prefer Fedex. Their shipping time is 2-3 days faster than UPS. They deliver to me until 8:00 pm weekdays and even saturdays!

Me thinks it is a piece of junk now - It was dropped on a corner.

You could have imported your own, for that price now me thinks

You may very well be correct...

I am pretty handy at making things work that are broken, but I have never disassembled a cell before. It would be a learning experience for sure...

I will see what UPS and Hiro say, and determine if I should try. It does seem to work as a whole besides the LEDs, however I have not tested the ball credit system. The frame is definitely fine, and shows no damage.

My other thought is this; it is cheaper to import a cell than the whole machine. My frame is fine, so I could just look for a cell somewhere if I can't fix this one.

You got a cell to sell Arby?

Taking the Cell apart is sometimes harder than the putting it back together

I expect a Star Trek Cell would cost almost as much as the machine itself, just cheaper shipping. My experience is that UPS wil TRY to destroy ANYTHING that says fragile.

Hopefully, things just "came apart" and nothing snapped. The mechanical assemblies can usually be fixed, with some knowledge, and a good electronics parts catalog.

    That's kind of cool...

I may be interested in it depending on how things go (if I get to keep the frame).

    PM me about it.

I just received an email from Hiro. He wants to come out to my house to bring by a new cabinet, and take a look at the machine. Thats about a 270mi drive each way!

If one of you guys didn't buy that 007 machine he had; I may have him bring it along.

A little update for you all on the whole UPS vs. Star Trek battle. Despite UPS's efforts to kill a very cool Pachi, I'm happy to inform everyone that Star Trek lives!!!

Hiro came by today, and together we were able to fix the damage done by UPS. Hiro brought by a new cabinet, and now everything looks and works great.

Plus I had him bring 007 with him since he was coming over. I have a lot of playing to do today.

UPS never did bother to come look at the machine, they didn't even bother to call and make an appointment to come look at it like they said they would. My advice to everyone here is DO NOT USE UPS!

    Hiro is a real !!!

    I agree 100% on both.

BTW, let me know if you figure out how to use the Realtime clock on 007. I still haven't got it to work.

UPS delivered 15 packages coming to me at my old warehouse, to a house a few blocks away. They made an error in their computer that automatically changed the actual entered address from AVE to Street due to a local programming glitch. They refused to pay the $2500 loss, and the "House" was abandoned so they delivered the packages to squatters crashing there. I never recovered any of them. They stood by having a signature for delivery even though it was not mine or anyone elses that worked with or for me. Needless to say I will only ship OUT with UPS and I only with a disclaimer and a requirement for aditional insurance.
