I got a life size R2D2 cooler from our store display

all my customers wanted it free!!!

I sold it to the customer that was the higher bidder

I think it went for around $50.00

The R2 Builders Club was at Star Wars Celebration IV in Los Angeles, and is where I first saw a modern pachinko - the one in my avatar taken at the show in fact. The builder used parts from the R2 Builders Club to make that frame, and I'm the proud owner of #2.

Why, there's an R2 Builder that's a member of this very board!

I've been working on him for almost a year, here's a picture of his current state. It's a lot of fun, can be VERY expensive, but everyone loves him! There's also a group that's starting to build the Wall-E robot from Pixar's upcoming movie...

2 in fact, although I haven't crossed the line that commits one to building a droid by purchasing the first part! I've seen how much time and money goes into these things, which is the angel on one shoulder telling me not to dive in... I've also seen a bunch of them together at the R2 Builders Club meetings, and that's the devil on the other telling me "so what, it's cool".

I was pretty close to building one too. I even have all the specs printed on giant paper. But I realized that it was one of those projects that can take a while...so I decided to hold off on it.

    Heh, one pic not enough?

I have a little website devoted to him here:

R2-D2 fan made replica from Star Wars
More pics and more info. The official builders site is here:
:: Welcome to the ALL NEW Astromech.net ::

It's been a lot of fun... I bought a sort-of-started droid from someone that wasn't going to finish it. Basically, he had almost all the parts, and had barely built a frame for them. I took his parts and started over with them. Just working on the occasional weekend or after work (otherwise he'd probably be done by now).

When completed he will be full remote control operated with lights and sounds. Eventually extra gadgets like opening panels and a periscope that sticks up out of his head... I have him at work, so it's always a lot of fun when clients get shown around the office, they make it to the 'R2 Room' eventually. And then my boss usually has a hard time still talking about our 'boring work'...

As you all now know, Rik and I are members of the R2 Builders club. The Los Angeles chapter has a yearly event (dubbed "R2LA"), which is coming up in a couple weeks. Rik will be bringing his (hopefully completed) fully functional R2 (how ya doin' on that Rik?). I have yet to commit to building one by purchasing my first part, due to lack of funds (my pachi habit might be hindering that ).

I'll be brining the Star Wars R2 pachinko in my avatar (which was built with some R2 Builders parts), as well as the tie-fighter cell in a red frame, mounted in one of Hiro's wood-stained cabinets. I'll also bring a couple ball trays with BigBearSteve's Pachitalk stickers. Who knows, might create a few new pachi addicts, and Pachitalk members!
