    Default Pachislo to MAME modification

Has anyone gutted a Pachislo chassis and mounted a Mame emulator into the unit? I have been toying with the Idea for some time anyone have any input?

I have identified the issues; powering the token acceptor to actuate properly, a foldout belly glass (Still Lit) to allow a keyboard/touchpad mouse, chaser circuits for top lights covering the stop buttons and placing a couple topside. and replacing the spin lever with a joystick version.

Any other thoughts before I try this out?

Many thanks Sid... I am thinking about doing it to one of the older Pikagoru machines If I cant get the issue worked out. I will do a step by step project post on it if the interest is there. If not that chassis I will find another one likely one of my parts New Pulsars. but the token hoppers on those are not as reliable.

Cool Idea...As for token acceptors, you would need to hack the keyboard and wire the acceptor into the number 5 key (insert coin). another way is to get a j-pac board from ultramarc. I've used them in all the arcade machines I've built. They work great.

yeah, I had the same thought I have a set of Master Rom DVDs to work with and I am sure I can set up the three button fronts for Blackjack but will have to modify the front more heavily for Poker. I would love to find a way to actuate Lighted buttons... any thoughts?

Sorry...Correction...it's called the I-pac. The I-pac will handle all your control needs and is fully programable. As for lighted buttons...not sure. Hap Controls sells lighted buttons for arcade machines, but I am not sure how they hook up. They also sell the exact "hold" buttons used on video poker machines.

Agreed, current figuring is loading the software and settings via USB chip and just run an old p2 or amd board with very minimal memory and small dime a dozen hard drives. I figure as small as a 350 watt power supply will work for the whole thing and I can scavenge them from the same old machines I get the boards from.

It's spelled "Happ" for those searching google... I've purchased many arcade parts from them over the years.

So what do you think I should gut the 3 button area and mount a 5 button panel or just cover the current button panel and mount a 5 gang on the upper area or even on the actual lens just below the monitor for the poker version?

Before cutting into the machine in any way, I would make a "dummy" board with all the buttons I want and test it all out. If your going to gut the door insides...then put them on the top of the area in front of the monitor. That would feel "natural" to me. Play the Mame version and check all controls and also, check all other card games you would use in this cabinet. You can program each button individually for each game. I would hate to cut everything up, mount it, and then find later that there is one card game or slot game that requires another button to be used.

Nah the initial ones would be specificly for video blackjack or poker those machines sell in florida for 6 to 7 hundred so getting 450 for one would be well worth the investment in time to build it. once I prove the concept is valid I will tinker with making a more universal one for games. One model for single joystick games one for two, etc... etc... Makes more sense to me to do it that way besides you cant sell the machine along with Roms but a Noncopyrighted rom for video blackjack or poker can be sold using Mame as an operating platform.

flat screen lcd monitor replaces the reel glass, mount power supply and main board inside. i usually use the stop buttons for the primary use buttons and the bet buttons for the secondary buttons(such as cash out, and # of credits to play) a small 24v of 5v x-former powers the token acceptor and this feds to the main board. I would recommend installing a cooling fan on this at the top.

A normal Computer power supply has output supplies that can be converted to floating ground state easily. and has its own cooling fan and can power everything but the monitor which will need its own supply usually a 12v 1 to 1.5 amp wouldn't that be more efficient?

I was thinking of a ducted tunnel fan to cool the whole unit anyway. Quieter and much higherair flow factor for the noise they just take up space, which in this case we have if we are not using a crt.

any chance of seing the finished unit? Pictures?
