Default Sankyo with parachute and airplane

I won a Sankyo Pachinko off a local auction site. Picked it up yesteday evening. It was stored in this guys cellar for the last 20 years and his wife ordered him to get rid of it

There was only one bid on it and now its mine.

I added some pics of my new toy.

Pic 1) As i have read on other posts, all kinds of dead animals in these "cellar" machines. Well, i was inspecting this one at home and this live one peeked around the corner. A pachinko with a pet Well he will have to find another home cuz this one needs a major cleanout. Dust, cobwebs and grime all over the place and full of balls too !(pic 2)

Pic 3 and 5 shows the front. A lot of rust on the chrome frame, but no damage to the surface of the machine. I will clean it and then finish off with an arby polish Anybody know the name and date of this pachinko ?

Pic4) shows the back. All plastic covers are still there and all wiring is intact too, up to a fuse and a connector to power the lights up.

I have already started cleaning the front, the chrome frame is nice and shiny. Now I have started on cleaning and disassembling the back. Everything seems to be in good shape, a good cleaning up should make this into a nice machine again

In that case, I hope they are the "gold" balls from Arby.

    Here we go !!!

I started taking off a part that looked really really dirty, then I thought, hang on, that other part doesn't look to good either. I ended up untangling and unscrewing most of what was on the back of the machine, uhm, i mean I took everything off in the end. I made pics every time I took something off, so If I forget, I just have to look back on how I took it apart, clever me

Then I gave everything plastic a good washing. My lil girl's tooth brush is an ideal tool. The brush is more narrow than a pachinko ball, so I could reach all the parts. I made an extra effort on the ball tracks and then polished all the brass and metal till it shone. I even polished the two "win bells" , just for the fun of it, nobody will see those during game play

Now everything is standing in the corner drying. So what now ... Ah right, I got a Dremel for my birthday, new in the box, lets try that one. So I started polishing nails. As you can see in the pics, I did half of them. Nice contrast I think. I am halfway there, I'll save the other half for tomorrow.

Ha LD, You don't think my daughter would accept me using her toothbrush!!! I made very sure it was an old one, I want to live another day. She would explain in no uncertain terms that it is totally "not on" to use her precious toothbrush. And I would not be able to get away with it. Chantou turned three two weeks ago ... nobody messes with Chantou or her stuff

After cleaning all the nails, gee whizz, never counted them before, there's loads I put the back of the machine back together. The plan is now to start on the front. Take off the pockets and all the plastic and give that a cleanout and finally play around with the Pica cell cleaner to shine it up. I might replace the plexiglass, since it is quite scratched up, we will see.

Of cousre after assembling the back, I couldn't resist to fill the hopper and give it a spin

It works like a charm !! Bells ring nicely during payout and everything runs smoothly.

Then after a little while ... I was getting this strange feeling that something was wrong. So I started playing sitting at the side of the machine, watching the balls at the back. Hmm I couldn't put my finger on it.

I still couln't find it. Then I decided to open up the front of the machine and guess what :

    Spoiler

My father told me this saying back at a very young age in my life.

"It's one thing to take something apart. It's a WHOLE nother story to put it back together."

My Dad helped me allot putting things back together at that Young age.

    Thanks DAD ! ! !

Congrats on getting it up and running.

How are you polishing your nails with the Dremel?

I tried using mine for the first time to polish the nails on the Owl machine using the wire brush attachment.

Was it Quick yes, did the nails get polished yes and no.

They became shiny but the shine was a flat shine as compared to using Brasso for Brass.

If you were to look at the Dremel Polished nails you would say wow they look great!

If you were to look at the Dremel Polished nails next to the Brasso polished nails you would say, ugh! Look how dull they need to be polished.

The Brasso polishing makes the nail heads Very Very Bright like small gold mirrors and the effect is dramatic in the light. The heads also become very smooth to the touch.

I will have to go back and re-polish the Owl nails with the Brasso. Is it necessary? No but without the mirror shine the machine doesn't feel right to me.

The dremel polished nails are a much quicker to achieve and look really good but just dont have the WOW effect that the Brasso polishing creates.

Maybe you found a better way to polish the nails with the Dremel than I did?

I tried the polishing wheels to no avail!

I never polish the nails with a Dremel. They spin way to fast and just one slip and you've messed up some of the plastic on the playing field. Pins out in the open I take a small wire brush to them and then use a cleaning compound and elbo greese. Nails holding in pockets or other decorations I skip the wire brush all together. Sorry just my two cents on the subject.

Go to the hobby store and get a length of brass tubing with an inside diameter a little bigger than the nail. Cut it in inch or two lengths and pack it with Brasso soaked (not too much) cotton or NeverDull to within an 1/8 or so of the end. Put it in the Dremel and push it on the nails, no slipoffs! Just make sure to put more in the tube as it gets compressed or it will eventually be able to reach the playsurface. Another option would be to cut the tubing about 6" long and bend 90 degrees so you can use it by hand.

I did not use the wirebruhs on the nails. I used a felt disk with a diameter of about 1 inch and 1/4 inch thick. I used polishing wax. It's a hard substance that goes soft when heated up (or rubbed). I also watched out not to speed the dremel up too much. Downside of this method is the mess it makes. The wax sticks to the face of the machine, I got yet to remove that, and when the feltpad touches the sharp sides of the nails, dust goes all over the place. The felt pad is literally shredded to pieces. So half the time I was vacuum cleaning the cell.

Then It took me the better part of 4 hours to polish the nails from black to shiny gold. So it wasn't a quick method either, but fun to do anyway. shiny-pins.jpg

As you can see the result isn't too bad

Although I like the method Compirate just mentioned, see if I can get that sorted out.

Well - it stinks, and it makes your fingers black

But I gotta go with Brasso every time

It just works the best on Brass

I have a machine that sounds like yours. It says skydive on it. I wonder if you know what it is worth. I am planning on selling it but I have no idea what to ask for it. It is in great condition other than it needs new glass on the door that opens.
