    Default Pachi statistics and stuff

Here is some info I've gathered from Sankyo's annual reports. Some might find it interesting
    A dash (-) before a number is a minus.

    Cash -Type Machines

With cash-type machines, money is directly inserted into the ball dispenser attached to the side of the pachinko machine. Pachinko balls are subsequently dispensed and play can begin.

Card Reader (CR) - Type Machines
With this type of machine, a prepaid card is inserted into a card reader attached to the side of the pachinko machine, after which balls worth a fixed amount of money are dispensed when players push the dipense button on the machine.

Revision of the Nikkoso Voluntary Restraints in January 1999

CR pachinko machines incorporate random jumps and changes in payout probabilities (Kakuhen). This function is the most notable characteristic of CR machines. When the specified numbers or patterns appear consecutively, the probability of hitting a large jackpot increases and there is a chance of hitting successive jackpots. To suppress the "speculative" aspect of pachinko, in 1996 the Nikkoso limited the maximum number of consecutive jackpots to five. As a result of these restrictions, newer CR machines offer fewer jackpost than previous CR machines did, thus diluting the gambling aspects of pachinko. In January 1999, however, the Nikkoso revoked this limit. This revision paved the way for the development of pachinko machines with more- attreactive game features that meet the needs of pachinko players and has also helped invigorate the pachinko market.
The Nikkoso was founded in 1960. At present, it comprises 19 pachinko machine manufacturers. Although it negotiates with various government agencies, the Nikkoso makes autonomous internal restrictions.

    Types of Pachinko Machines

    Type I - Fever machines
The type-I pahcinko machine is called a "Fever" machine and was developed by Sankyo. This is the main type of pachinko machine used today.
To play a Fever machine, the pachinko balls drop into the "start pocket" at the center of the board first, after which numbers and drums with various patterns as well as patterns and numbers on an LCD begin to revolve in a manner similar to a slot machine. Players win a jackpot when identical numbers or patterns appear in a row simultaneously. For each jackpot, the principal type of Fever machine dispenses approximately 2,000 to 2,200 pachinko balls. The main attraction of the Fever machine is a sense of "action" that raised the expectations of players when identical numbers or patterns appear as well as the large number of balls that are dispensed with each jackpot.

Type II - Airplane Type Machines
The Type II pachinko machine is the airplane type machine. With this type of pachinko machine, when balls drop into the start pocket, the wing on the center panel opens and closed at one-second intervals. With good timing, the ball is taken by the wing and a player earns a jackpot if the pachino ball enters the so-called Lucky Pocket. For each jackpot, the machine provides players with approximately 600 to 1,000 pachinko balls. Although this is fewer than the number of balls provided by the Fever machine, the chances of hitting a jackpot with an airplane type machine are higher and players can enjoy pachinko while spending less money. The main attraction of the airplane type machine is the thrilling movements that are set off when pachinko balls enter the Lucky Pocket.

2000 - Pachinko is a national pastime in Japan that, according to official statistics, is enjoyed by a total of 19 million people in 17173 pachinko halls across the country. In 1999, players spent 20.9 trillion yen ($196,891,191,710) in pachinko halls, making the industry the nation's largest leisure business, supassing the second most popular pastime of dining out. Pachinko accounts for more than 40% of Japan's 50.9 trillion yen pastime market, which, inturn, comprises 27% of Japan's leisure market. The pachinko industy was recognized as one of Japan's principal industries by Japan's Economic Planning Agency for the first time, thereby gaining important recognition as a major industry by the government as well as the general public.

Although there is no official data on the scale of pachinko machine and pachinko machine-related industries, it is estimated that the size of the market for pachinko machines, ball bearing supply systems, and other related businesses is approximately 1 trillion yen. There were 3.6 million pachinko machines installed in pachinko halls as of December 1999, and 3.01 million pachinko machines were newly shipped in 1999.

In Japan, gambling is essentially prohibited by the Criminal Law of Japan. Although public entities may organize gambling - such as horse, bicycle, motorcycle, and motorboat racing - no private entity may engage in gambling. Pachinko is regarded as the closest entity activity to gambling in which private entites are allowed to participate. However, the pachinko industry is subject to regulations stipulated by Japan's Act to Control Businesses that May Affect Public Morals (Fu-Ei-Ho), under which pachinko halls and pachinko machine manufacturers are regulated. Fu-Ei-Ho provides two separate procedures by which the pachino industry is able to avoid be classified as "speculative".
In accordance with Article 20 of this Act, pachinko machines must pass a format inspection by the Hotsukyo (The Association for Maintenance of Electronic Communication Technology), a designated testing agency of the Public Safety Commission. In addition, pachinko machine manufacturers are authorized to sell only those machines satisfying the conditions set by the Public Safety Commission for a three-year period after receiving notification that a machine has been certified.
