Default Variable Resistors Hook Up - Wire Gauges & Butt Splices

So a bought a slue of B1K Variable Resistors and now am wondering what gauge of wire to use to solder with? I'm not a electrician though the wire used for the speakers look like a 30-Gauge, is this right? I want to solder a good length of wire (some blue, some red) to the resistors then tap that into the speaker wires, this way I can extend the line and place the resistors anywhere I want on my pachinko. What's better, just soldering the connections or using "Butt splice solderless terminals", something I have never used. What size will I need and how do I use them?

Use between 19g and 24g. You can then use telephone button connectors (red). These can take wires from 19g to 26g. You don't need larger gage wire unless you are running yards in a single run.

They most likely are 22-gauge. I use 22-gauge for my l-pad wiring. Tin the wires, then solder them together in parallel (facing each other). Put a piece of heat-shrink tubing on one wire before soldering, then slide it over the exposed wire and use a heat gun or hair dryer (on high heat, low fan).

I've seen "heat-shrink tubing" used though don't know where to pick up online, any sources?

Heat shrink tubing should be available at Radio Shack on and off line. On-line sources would be electronix.com, and radioshack.com

Also, here is the Google Products link.

    This looks interesting:

    2370h-outlined.jpg
    Heat Shrink Insulated Butt Splices
For wire sizes 22 gauge to 10 gauge

Heat shrink butt connectors are adhesive-lined and color-coded to industry standard wire range. Heat shrink protects against corrosion and the adheisve makes the connector waterproof. Excellent splice for marine, automotive, outdoor, or harsh environment use. The translucent heat shrink allows for visual inspection of the connection, and has the wire gauge printed on it. These connectors have a greater pull strength when compared to vinyl or nylon splices. Rated to 600 volts. Please select wire size and quantity from the drop-down box.

    Has anyone used this?

Here's a few pics of my wire jobs. The first is Vicky Chance in the Lumina frame, where you can see the heat shrink over the soldered wires. The second is Fever the King in the Victory frame, where you can see how I ran the wire harness to the back. The third is the heat shrink tubing I use, which I got at Fry's.

You don't really need a heat gun; I use my soldering iron to shrink the tubes. Just "wave" it near the tube and it shrinks. Works like a charm

I wave this over the tubing on many applications. It reaches into areas really well and is very quick. http://www.bicworld.com/inter_us/bdd...product_id=234
