Default My new One Armed Bandit from 1962 Jubilee

Id like to share with you my recent purchase on ebay, a 1962 Silver Jubilee Mk1 club jackpot one armed bandit. I picked her up for £150, which is very good value. Fixed the locks, got the piston working for handle return and all jackpots payout. Thing works on old 6 pence (known as 6D). Amazing to think that in 1962 the average wage was £13, so 6D was quite a high outlay.

Ive given it some TLC, polished up the dull metal, oiled the bits i should. Im currently having a loft room built where this will sit alongside my King Camel and MuMu World. I think they will compiment each other nicely.

The Jubilee Bandit is all mechanical, no electrics at all and this one was built in London England, although they originate from Australia. Okay, its not a pachi, but it looks great alongside them. Will post a picture when they are all lined up. I opened up the base plate and underneath there were old sixpences, and some US Dimes underneath, gleaming new..been there for years.

    Thanks all malc

If any of you guys need advice on strange coin operated machines, such as bryans, rotamint, aristocrat, coin pushers, allwin flickballs, then some experts on http://www.pennymachines.co.uk go to the forum. Interesting coin operated equipment to view and old fair ground memoribilia.

Thanks all for your kind comments on it.

Now the EEC is to blame for the destruction of these beauties in the UK. When we joined the european economic community (the common market known as Europe), or as we say over here, the european con artists we changed our currency over to decimilization. We had this bizzarre old currency where 1penny was known as 1D, there were then 12D to a shilling, and 20 shillings in the pound, therefore 240 pennies made a pound (so you guys in the US it would be like 240 cents making a dollar)

As far as im aware, our old fruit machines were initially things that were hidden away in clubs, away from the eyes of the law.
My readings into the subject of gambling equipment, was it was the same in the states too.

Over here they operated on 1d coins, 3d coins, 6d coins, 12D was the maximum payout on public machines, this machine ive got holds over 100 coins in each of the jackpots visible in the photo. When the EEC decided we should lose our currency, these machines became completely useless, as nothing would fit them anymore, by chance some machines, when currency changes, a coin might fit (in the case of my one, you can run it on the new 5p) So, in their droves, they were taken to a place of execution and completely smashed to pieces. NO... MILLS fruitmachines (the ones you US guys may have come across, the Jennings machines with indian head on the front, all smashed to pieces) so, although you can still find some machines today, a lot are gone forever.

If you guys are interested in something like this, then there are some interesting pieces on www.ebay.co.uk use some search strings on 'one armed bandit' 'one arm bandit' and if you like something that resembles something like a extremely basic pachinko with a ball bearing flying around try 'allwin'.

I believe ebay australia, one armed bandits are known as 'pokies' or 'poker machines' as the reels had cards on, not fruits. Malc
