On my american IGTs they use velco sticky one side to hold the reel strips on. That make it easyer to change the machine over to another game.

Double stick I think would work fine

Installed my Canon i9900 wide format printer today. Haven't tried any backlit film in it yet, but so far I'm pretty impressed with this printer.

One of the things they don't appear to tell you in the manual is that you can actually hook up 2 computers at the same time. There are 2 inputs, a high-speed USB 2.0 and a USB 1.0/low speed 2.0. They seem to imply that you can only use one or the other, not both. But, as long as one of your computers can do high-speed 2.0, you can connect computers to both inputs. I just tried printing from both at the same time and while the printer was printing one job, the other computer just sat there politely waiting it's turn. Worked great.

There's also a great web page print utility (that I assume comes with all new Canon printers) that reformats web pages on the fly so they print correctly.

So, over all, I very happy with the printer so far. I've got to run off and do some family stuff right now. With a little luck I'll be able to try some stuff on backlit film tonight.

I've got a roll of Kodak 7mil that looks like it should be stiff enough to do reels. I've also got some film from Red River that will be more convenient for belly glass because it's precut to fit the printer, but it's not as stiff and probably won't be as good for reel strips.

Found some double-stick foam tape. It is made by SCOTCH brand. It is clear mounting tape. It looks to be about the same thickens as the original stuff and is clear so won't see any of it. Only drawback I can see is that it comes in 1 in. wide rolls. 1/4 wide would be almost the perfect width. I will just have to cut it in strips. I have not used it yet when I do I will post. I am still thinking over the Velcro stuff but I think it will be to thick and will show on the reels. I will test it out. If somebody does it first post it please.

    Hey arbycoffee,

You do a lot of custom Zett-30s, don't you? What's the trick to getting the belly glass out?

I've got the belly frame off. I can get enough flex in the frame to easily pop the belly glass out along the top edge. What do I do now?

It looks like I have to stick a putty knife under the bottom edge of the glass, and force it towards the top enough to clear the bottom clamps. Then flex the glass inwards to get it free of the side clamps.

But all that looks like it's going to put a lot of force on the frame and glass. I'm a bit afraid of breaking something.

    Help!

Well, I did just what I outlined in the post above. It worked.

You'd never be able to use real glass in that machine! Needed to flex that glass quite a bit to get it out.

Thanks. Not looking forward to trying to get that second piece in. I thought I might try this instead of using 2 pieces of lexan. Let me know if you've tried it, and if it works or not. I'm thinking about sticking the film to the lexan while the ink is still a little sticky, say about 5 minutes after it's come off the printer. I'm wondering if this will form a permanent bond, or if it will break free once the ink dries entirely.

Got another question for you. Just printed my first film. Turned out pretty good. Need to do a little color adjustment before I do the final one. The only problem I had was that, when the printer grabs the film, it tends to go into the printer at a slight angle. Have you had that problem?

I thought it might feed better if I put a pile of paper in the feeder, behind the backlit film so their would be less wiggle room for the film.

Here's a tip for anyone working with the Red River film. If you want to figure out which side to print on, lick your thumb and finger and grab the film between your thumb and finger (in an area where you won't be printing). The print side will feel slightly stickier than the non-print side.

I wonder if Arby uses that same technique... to figure out which side of the skin to tattoo? :smt101

I've been experimenting with backlit film today and I've got a problem. To make it look good with the power on, I have to print it much darker. But then, it doesn't look very good with the power off - way too dark.

It looks like the real belly glasses are silk screened. They end up with nice bright colors, even when the machine is off. Has anyone been able to come up with a way around this problem (other than going to silk screening)?

I'm thinking of printing 2 films. One that will look good under normal room lighting with the power off, and one that is darker, intended to be backlit. Then put them both on the machine, obviously with the darker one behind the lighter one. Anybody ever try this?

If you do it this way you might get away with 2 lighter ones. Lighter and darker might be too dark.

arbycoffee, when you replace the front glass on a NET (not the belly glass, but the glass the reels show through), do you get to it by just removing the entire assembly that is behind it, all in one piece? To do this is all I have to do is disconnect all the wires and then take out the 5 screws along the top and 3 on the bottom?
