Default Star Wars - Is my Claw busted?

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, I've been looking for 2 days and haven't found the answer.

On the Star Wars pachinko machine, what triggers the Claw direcly below the center slot? I have manually tried dropping balls into every payout hole I can find, but nothing triggers the claw to open.

It's driving me nuts. Other than that I am so blown away by it that my wife has to come up to the game room at 2am to tell me to "shut that @$#% thing off and come to bed" or I would die like a lab rat pushing the pleasure button.

Please oh Gurus of the Silver Sphere hear the insignificant whinings of an Humble supplicant and grant me the boon of your wisdom.

Welcome to PachiTalk YellowDog! I have a Star Wars and love it, but I don't really pay much attention to the specifics. I'm sure someone will come along with the answer to your question. (I think I'm a little afraid of your wife )

about the only time you will see the claw open is in the fast count mode after a fever. the rest of the time if it opens it is for a fraction of a second and rarely.

    And welcome to PachiTalk

The claw opening is controlled by the subroulette that is triggered by the pass through pocket (to the left side of the LCD screen).

When a ball goes through the pass through pocket, the two subroulette symbols will start flashing (usually an 'X' and an 'O' LED somewhere on the playfield). They will alternate for a little while, and then will stop with one symbol lit. If it ends on the 'winning' symbol, the claw will open for a fraction of a second. If it stops on the losing symbol, the claw remains closed.

Usually you can bank up to four 'spins' of the subroulette, there will be LED indicators or symbols on the LCD indicating banked subroulette spins. (not to be confused with the indicators for banked regular reel spins!).

After a 'Big Bonus' fever round (ones that have been started with an odd set of numbers), the fever will be followed by a high probability 'Kakuhen' round, where each successful spin of the subroulette will trigger more than one claw opening (and the claw stays open for longer each time).

On Star Wars, during normal play the subroulette odds are very low, and you'll rarely end on the winning symbol, so the claw will generally remain closed. However during the Kakuhen round (and the 100 spin chance round), the odds are much better, and the claw will open much more often.

I use to think that those claws were the reach that everyone always talked about because they open up and reach for the ball.

Wow Daverob, I am in awe of that whole statement. I just hope I live longe enough to to experience half of those amazing things.

Thank you very much for the explaination. I grew up with the old mechanical pachinkos where the claws would open and stay open until they ate the next ball. The sheer beauty of all of the gizmos, widgits , blinkies and stuff on these new machines is unbelievable.

Now that I know it's not broke, it's time to go push the pleasure button some more.

Thanks everybody, virtual beers all around!

    Keep up the good work!

    Thanks everybody!

It was a great night last night! My wife finally played the StarWars machine last night. I found out what her problem was with the game. It didn't work for her. This is where lurking paid off. My big hand just naturally came in contact with the metal band around the shooter. When she tried it, her smaller hand only touched the plastic. If someone hadn't posted about the metal band she still wouldn't be able to play (she thought I had rigged it so she couldn't play it). Now she is much happier (and so am I ).

I also got my chance to have Darth kick my *** for the first time. I have no idea what triggered it because I was too busy watching R2D2 dance when the Darth Vader theme played, the chance button lit up and the "shoot the tie fighters game came on the screen". I am in absolute AWE at the job those engineers at Sankyo did.
