Default Sound Modifications on Indiana Jones Pachinko

I would like to add a sound control modification to my Indiana Jones Pachinko. I've read posts on kits though have no idea which one to go with. Curious on what has actually worked in the field and which company's kits to go with? Are they that hard to solder in? Where would I do it on my IJ Pachinko (everything is incased in plastic hard shell cases)? The one I'm leaning towards is at http://www.pachislo.com/pachislo/par...il/volume.html

to be honist a 1K variable resistor and a little cable with a soldering iron is all you needs will see if i can find pics for you if you open the door / glass on your indy and look at the right hand speaker there is a caverty just the right size next to it all you do is cut the red wire to each speaker extend it to get to that cavert y from the left one and solder in the resistor

TRW Carbon Comp Resistors 1W 68 ohm 5%

I started last year to use a resistor on each speaker, that way they still use the factory volume control.

Some machines were burning out the adjustable pots. I was losing my azz on sending out replacement ones and on the phone walking them thru replacement.

1W 68 ohm 5% is the answer... hmmmmmm? Would I pick this up at Frys or Radio Shack? Would one handle both speakers or do I need to buy two and tweek/set them exactly the same?

BTW thanks for all the info, this is really helping me

LOL, how do I open the casing to get to the speaker. I was given a key though it only looks like it swings open the whole Pachinko from it's frame.

Can't you tell this is my first machine already.

I much prefer the L-Pad for a handful of reasons noted in another post, however I did receive one machine with a 5W 51-ohm resistor on each speaker, and have not converted it yet. I'd be worried a good fever round would burn up that 1W resistor, as these machines deliver what, 13W IIRC? The 5W is still plenty small enough to fit inside the door too...

Is JohnD0406 saying there's a chance that a 1W resistor(s) might burn out? Should I go for something higher, more durable (excuse me for my ignorance, not sure what the right terminology is for this kind of part).

I opened up the Pachinko using the key that came with it though still have no idea how to get behind the glass/plexiglass screen. I can tell that certain front component have hinges though just can't find away to swing them open.

Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... it took some finagling but I got it open. There's loads of wires but I think I found were both speakers clip in.

Does a 50-ohm 10 watt ceramic resistor(s) come with an adjustable control for volume?

No, its a fixed value. Your volume control will be the factory switch.

Turn the key to the right to open the whole machine. To the left to open the glass door.

I use 50-ohm 10 watt ceramic resistors from Radio Shack. They're overkill, but I know they won't burn up. They don't even get warm.

I'd agree with JohnD and Frank here... I'm afraid that a 1W resistor would get pretty hot. Your best bet is going with a 5 to 10 watt rating.
The reason the small variable resistors burn up in the first place is because they aren't beefy enough to handle the power dissipation in the first place.

    For your convenience:

Here's the 50 ohm 10 watt resistor at Radio Shack

    And here's a 100 ohm 10 watt resistor.

Before you ask which is 'better'... just buy them both... it's only four bucks.
Try the 50 ohm resistors first... and if that's still too loud for you, use the 100's.

I just got back from Radio Shack and was given a 5 pack of 1k-0hm Resistors (1/2 watt - 5% tolerance). I told the clerk what I needed the Resistors for, gave him a run down list of suggestions form this thread and told him I have no experience with this type of electronics. Did I purchase the right part? I don't feel that I did though it only cost me $1.07

    Screw it!

    I just sent for the 50 ohm 10W 5% Wirewound Resistor (2-Pack) and the 100 ohm 10W 5% Wirewound Resistor (2-Pack).

So when I get these bad boys in all I have to do is cut the speaker wire, solder one set of red/white wires (from the speaker) to one side of the resistor and then solder the other red/white wires (leading where they clip into the board) on the other resistor side? Should I use electrical tape after this to seal them in?

AGAIN I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE AT THIS, SORRY

You need to cut one of the wires out of the two leading to the speaker, it doesn't matter if you choose to cut the red wire or the white wire, just don't cut both!

Then solder one end of the resistor to one of the cut wires, and the other end to the other cut wire. You can then cover the soldered joints with insulation tape or sleeving whichever you prefer.

Then repeat the whole lot with one of the wires leading to the other speaker.

BTW the 1k resistors you got earlier are really too high a value for these purposes. They'll make the sound way too quiet, even if the factory volume switch is set to the maximum level.
