Remember that there are other responsibilities with having a Tax ID.

You have to collect sales tax on any item you sell to someone in your state. Then you have to send that to the State (every 6 months in Ohio).

In Ohio, you also have what essentially is an inventory tax. If you have inventory of items to sell at the first of the year, you have to pay a tax on that.

And, as has been said above, you cant use your Tax ID to avoid paying sales tax on items that are for personal use.

Did you know, a lot of internet sale with large company, that have a retail outlet in your state wi still charge you sales tax. I have come up agaist it this year a lot. Some hide it in there handling fees, I wonder if it is a way to play-cate the states yelling that they want a sales tax on the net.

It's just the law. Always has been, even before the Internet. The mail order companies have always been doing it. If a company has a physical presence in your state, they must collect your state's sales tax from you even if they are shipping this particular item in from out of state. The ban on Internet taxes does not help them in this particular case.
