This question has been asked over and over again ... I personally run mine 24-7 . as for power if you look at your transformer or power supply it should be rated in amps output figure 7 amp for the biggest machine running all the bells and whistles . now thats 7amp at 24 volts output or 7X24 =168 watts now take that figure 168 / 110 = 1.52 amps at 110 volt side of the transformer now thats at full tilt running everything all at once which rarely occurs .At rest your machine will draw a little over half that amount or about 700ma a bit more than your nintendo or playstation power pack that you probably never unplug from the wall anyway . Now if you plan on running them 24-7 i suggest you use a surge protected power strip with a built in circuit breaker just for protection for the machine as well as any shorts in the machine (this is possible in any machine in your home ) if the machine doesn't have a 3 prong cord (ground plug) then i would suggest you replace the original cord with one that does .Just remember this is a computer device and it needs surge protection to protect it from the power companies spikes just like your p.c. does. good luck and enjoy your machine.

There are many threads dedicated to this issue. Jeff knows more about electronics than I will ever know. But it has always been my position that these machine should be turned off when there is no one attending them.
