Default milt gets a bogus negative

somebody didn't pay for a machine and blamed milt. they gave him a negative. :-(

that's one thing i don't like about ebay,

i just had 2 non paying bidders and didn't leave negatives because one of them slapped a negative back at someone else for giving him a negative.

About all anyone can do in those circumstances is put a comment below the negative feedback explaining what actually happened. :-x

Still, it hurts your percentage of positive feedback that everyone sees on your auctions.

If the guy who left the negative is a real deadbeat and gets kicked off ebay, I wonder if they remove his negative feedback postings?

The problem with the feedback system is it is really meaningless. Unless someone has a really bad score or lots of negatives recently, you cant tell because everyone is so damn scared of getting a negative that they never leave negative feedback themselves.

Then you have vendors like slotsusa who screw up all the time, but usually "make good" when someone complains. The buyer then feels that things have been set right and they leave a positive rating.

I think the simple positive/neutral/negative need to be replaced with specific questions to be answered by the buyer and seller. Example:

Questions for the buyer to answer (all can have yes/no/maybe/na responses):
    - Did the seller send you an invoice, with all charges and payment information, within X days after you requested one?
    - Did the seller ship the item(s) within X days after verifying your payment?
    - Was the item adequately packaged?
    - Was the item as described in the eBay listing?
    etc...

Questions for the seller to answer (all can have yes/no/maybe/na responses):
    - Did the buyer end you payment within X days after you sent them an invoice?
    - Was the payment accurate and valid?
    etc....

Then some sort of point value is assigned to each answer and applied the the buyer's and seller's rating.

Having objective questions, as opposed to objective generalities helps. This way, as a buyer, I can feel safe leaving negative comments because if the seller tries to claim I didn't pay, etc, I have proof I did, and eBay would have to drop the negatives.

The bizrate.com system is pretty good.

    Example -- Camera Shopping

    You rate 4 areas:

    -Would you shop again
    -One Time Delivery
    -On time shipping
    -Product Met expectations

Something like that on ebay would be tremendous. I think people would be more likely to leave negative marks in areas that are deficient without feeling like they had to leave positive.

yeha I love bizrates system, its very nice! thing about ebay changing it is that its hard enough to get feedback now, let alone if you have to answer 10 questions. Id love it if it was changed though, i hate the system now as it is.

Don't worry...The big dealers like Milt etc usually will buy the feedback from Ebay to neutral or off completely for 25.00 or free if they do the type of business they do. Ebay takes care of their volume dealers. Now for the small guys it's another thing right kimosabe?

    Default feedback

Not true all.... If I screwed up, then a negative would be justified. The customer sent me 6 emails on various dates and I replied to each one with the information they requested. But for some reason, it appears there may have been a block or something as their account was on Yahoo.com. In this case, I can fax the customer the replies but they just said they were sorry and they thought I was ignoring them...so I sold them the machine and all is well except for the bogus negative I now have. The feedback, positive, negative and neutral is important to me and we have changed a few business processes based upon recommendations from the boards and emails from our customers. I am following the feedback removal process and hopefully I can get back to zero negatives as soon as possible. ALL feedback, comments and suggestions are always more than welcome.....Happy Holidays All! Milt

yeah you should be able to get that removed if they also agree to everything being good in the end. Ive seen that numerous times on ebay feedback!

Great write up on your machines there on eBay, Milt. And, I was impressed with your feedback... and still am, even after what this jerk did.

Your recommendations about Milt are right on. I purchased a machine from him today and he is just great. Cordial and good person.

I bought both of my machines from Milt. They arrived VERY fast, in well packaged boxes, in great shape, and at a great price! Great Seller!

I have not dealt with this vendor, but reading some of his positive feedback, one negative shouldn't effect him. Just because someone has a negative doesn't mean that you shouldn't deal with them. Their is always two sides to every story. Looking at his multitude of positive feedbacks, I think he will be fine. It is a shame to get a negative when your not at fault. He seems like a quality vendor to me!
