Default Introduction & Question about newer Nishijin model

Hello all. My name's Jason and I'm from Portland, Oregon. I just started collecting a few months ago and have a couple vintage models (one 1973 Nishijin and one Sankyo from aroung the same time), as well as a Nishijin from the possibly the mid 90's. I'm trying to find out what model the newer Nishijin is.

The LCD on the newer Nishijin has some damage to the screen, but lights up and plays the animations just fine. The only other place I've seen anything about this particular machine was from a screenshot I found on IGN.com. It was featured on an old Super Nintendo game called " Nishijin Pachinko Monogatari" but since I don't have the game itself, I don't know what this game was called or when it was made. Here's the screenshot from IGN:

From the stickers on the front of it, I cant seem to tell the year based on the method I've seen posted around where you find the varidity to determin the year of manufacture. The order of the three stickers aren't in the same color or order as on the guide I've seen, nor are there two digit numbers on them.

Anyhoo...great to be here and I'm pretty jazzed that I found this forum. It seems to be a great resource full of great people!

    Cheers.

I'd guess 1998-2000 based on the frame style.

Thanks for the warm greeting and follow-up everyone! That is totally cool to find out the meaning of monogatari. The game title makes complete sense now. Now just to find out the name of the game, so to speak, and try to date it! 1998-2000 does sound about right. I was thinking earlier at first, but then again, I am only just beginning to learn about these and off the hobby's inticacies. I've poked around these boards a bit and and have learned quite a bit form here. Poked around the net and downloaded a manual and schematics here and there. So much to learn!

When I get home from work tonight, I'll get a better picture of the stickers in the front the newer Nishijin and see if anyone can help me decipher some of it .

So has anyone else here had trouble with the LCD screens on thier newer machines? Seems like a pain to replace...I mean, not to find an LCD screen that size so much, but to hook it up and install it correctly to the board within the correct specs to the original and all.

    Cheers!

    ~Jason

I'm beginning to think more early 1990's as I have Rhapsody game in the same color frame and it's a 1993. Still researching (dialup here ), a picture of the back of the machine would be good, the name of the machine should be on the control board somewhere.

    Tada! I love a challenge!

Apparently a rare model, if 3star had one it would sell for 27090Yen ($255.57)

Thanks again for the input! I found that when in doubt...check the obvious :

This is kinda graphic intensive so I apologize for that, but here are some other pics I took last night of my newest machine that I will now refer to as "Success Story". I can't figure out the date by the three manufacturing stickers on the front because they don't follow the pattern that I found on determining the veridity to find the date of manufacture. Maybe I'm missing something.

There is also a 'HI / LOW' switch in the back just above the power supply in the back that I can't figure out what's function is. I havn't noticed any difference in switching it during game play.

Just to the right of the launch actuator in the back, there is a knob that has directional arrows on it that can be turned left and right. This too, I cannot figure out the function of. I have as of yet been able to find a manual for this model.

Here are some other pics of the back and the playfield art:

Anyway, it's just fun to be able to share pics of my new toy with you all. Thanks again!

    Cheers!

The switch is for volume, most don't do much.

The knob is to adjust the shooter. One way and it will shoot farther, the other and less, with the shooter knob in the same position.
