ebay changes the names of the bidders to this code once a bid reaches 25-30 dollars to protect the privacy of the bidders.

No, it doesn't look too fishy to me. You just had one guy set a high bid on the 21st and then others trying to chase it down, $10 at a time. Finally someone else wanted it more and bid higher than the 21st bid.

I have seen it also, but in all of my auctions I have never seen the option to make it private.
