Never heard of it. No info on google either. I hope it works ok. it might not work with the new currency unless its been updated recently. Everytime a new bill is released, BV software needs to be updated to accept it. But this is all stuff we can iron away after we clear the ram error.

Well, finally got the clear RAM chips and just tried them. Installed in the correct sockets the correct way and turned on the machine. After a couple seconds I get all 9's in the displays and the reset LED cycles about every second. I put the original chips back in and I still get the 83 F error. Darn, thought sure this would work. So Chris, do I need to buy a boat and use this machine for an anchor? Please say it ain't so.

Well I found a place in Minnesota that can repair or replace my S5500 board. Rates seem to be reasonable. They are called World Wide Gaming, in Hamel, MN. Anyone ever deal with these folks?

Just an update to revive this thread. I sent my S5500 board in for repair to Worldwide Gaming. They said that replacing the battery had destroyed the board. It is a multilayer board and the guy that had it before me replaced it so I am not surprised. Anyway they had a working replacement board which I bought and should receive on Monday. So anyway hope to have this machine running soon. Everyone cross their fingers for me.

Well, good news mostly. Got the new board and installed it in the machine. Darn, still the same 83 F error. A quick call to World Wide Gaming and the tech talked me thru the reset and it came up and ran. Have only two problems which I am hoping are something simple. First the cash out button does not work. No error or anything it just does nothing, even though credits are displayed. Also, this is minor, it gets frequent coin jam errors and I have to open and close the machine to clear them. Maybe it has a tough time with the new quarters. I have a mixture of both. So almost there. There are two sets of dip switches on the board which I am hoping may be the cash out problem. Any ideas?

Check to make sure the button is popped all the way on to the bezel on the cash out button (I had this problem before on and IGT S+), also I am sure you probably already did this but check the wires at the button to make sure one didn't get bumped off.

Sorry I can't help on the other questions.

Sometimes the cherry switches in the buttons go bad. If you have a test button on the front of your board, put the game in test number 3. Test 3 is an input test and will allow you to test all the games inputs. While in this test press each button, if its working correctly the front display will change from "00" to "01" to show open and close. If this doesn't happen then the switch is bad or its not wired correctly. check the connections first.
As far as the coin jams clean the coin comparator real good and put in a new coin. Lots of coin dust builds up and will cause jams.
If still a problem I have plenty of cherry switches and CC16's so don't worry about that.
I'm glad the board issue is taking care of.
We'll get this puppy 100%, I can't stand to see a Bally game in distress but I'm glad it has a pulse again.
You have my cell, feel free to call me if you want.

I should of asked. what is the error code your getting with the coin jams. Should be a twenty something.

OK, what great advice from Chrisdice. I put the machine in test 3 mode and found no closure on the cash out button. Removed the switch to test it and it tested good. Put it back in and noticed that the switch wires did not have one hooked to the common but to the two other elements. Put the wire in the right place and it passed the test and now pays out.

OK now for the coin jam. I get error 20 mostly and sometimes 25. I cleaned the CV unit with a swab and alcohol and it seemed to get slightly better. Oh yeah, put in a new coin too. It will still give me the error one out of 20 or so coins, a real pain.

One other quick question. The light is out in the Max Bet button. Can the light be replaced or do I need to replace the button?

OK, one other quick question. Should it credit coins after 3 or reject them? This just rejects every coin after 3 so you have to put more in for each pull unless you have won some to get a credit.

The bulb is a 555 wedge bulb. Just like the ones the pachi's use but 8v not 24v.unless its the small button. then its an 85 bulb. I can send you a few of those too. As far as the credit thing, I'll have to check when I get back to work, but I think thats an option you can set. We have been coinless for so long I'm a little rusty on this stuff.
I'll get back to you tomorrow.
And I'll look up those coin errors too.

I made a mistake. The small bulbs we use in Bally games are #88. The 85's are used in pachi's. I got mixed up. Our new Alpha games are 100% led so the bulbs are being phased out.

Anyone know where I can get a Bally service manual for this machine? Would be nice to know how to do all of these tests and what all the codes mean. Tried Googling it but not much luck.

He needs a proslot 6000 manual. That covers both s5500 and s6000 games. 5000 plus is older then s5500. I'm putting together a care package. (cc16, optics board, lights and switches) I'll look for info on the tests and options and send that along too.

Thanks Chris. We'll have this machine working 100% before long. And to think I was ready to rip its arm off and turn it into a lamp.

    Birdbrain,
That Second Ebay link looks like what I need, at a pretty good price too.
