Default Star Wars payout error code "7"

I am having an issue with my Star Wars. The machine does not payout and the red light on the right front of the machine is on and the light is green to the left of the machine. The error code in the back is a "7" indicating that there is a payout error. I have checked the ball tray is clear and I have removed the payout switch and appears to be ok. I can empty the balls and I they all empty without issue. I have inspected that all the wires are attached. I have also removed the control sub board and verified that wires are attached behind the board. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks much.

there should be 2 payout tracks, both should clear all balls when you do a ball dump.

one side can be jammed while the other still may be working.

What's the best/recommend way to get at the tracks? I notice that there are some screws holding the tracks but I wanted to check here before I dove in too deep. Thanks again

you should be able to just dump all the balls, my flashlight batteries are dead so I can't check mine right now

For this kind of fault, I'd first remove the payout unit and press the metal clip immediately above the payout unit to clear the tracks of any balls. Then, if any balls remain in the tracks, turn the machine upside down and give it a few shakes. Only after this would I attempt to remove anything that's screwed down.

Once the tracks are clear, with the payout unit still removed, run a couple of balls down each of the tracks individually, and watch to see if they get hung up anywhere. Remember to press the metal clip again, or the balls will stop above the payout unit. Then without pressing the metal clip, fill up the tracks with balls, and press the clip to allow them to drain.

If there are any balls sticking, you'll then have a good idea of where to look to fix the problem. If no balls are sticking, then check the exit paths from the payout unit, by dropping a few balls into the ball track that leads down from the payout unit and make sure that the balls appear in the front shooter tray. If there are any problems here, open the front glass, and the ball shooter tray and check that the balls drop out of the front of the machine.

Finally clear the payout motor of balls by using a small flat head screwdriver on the shaft of the motor gear while it is still removed from the machine, and then replace it on the back of the machine. Fill the machine up with balls, and see if the problem still remains.

Edit: after re-reading the original post, it sounds like you might have a fault with the hopper empty switch. Ball jams don't usually cause an error code 7, but it's still worth trying the above steps to make sure that it's not the case.

To test that the signal from the payout switch is getting through to the payout control board OK, you need a multimeter to check the voltage between pins 1 (the white wire) and 3 of the orange connector CN5 (with the machine switched on), the voltage should change from around zero to about 12v when the switch is actuated.
