I would love a jaws as one of my next pachinkos, but unfortunately both of our UK suppliers have dried up

Looks like I might have to look at importing myself and that scares the crap out of me.

Samuraislot's moving to smaller quarters some time soon (I've offered to help them move, but am afraid I'd high-tail it out of there once the truck was loaded ), and I haven't heard that they're getting anything new any time soon, but they still have a warehouse full of good stuff. I think they've had this one up also, not sure if they have any more.

I believe Britain has a SAL agreement with Japan so they can ship a whole machine cheaper than we can, same as Canada.

We only have EMS for whole machines and EMS, SAL and Slo-Boat for the smaller stuff.

You can ship from YA to UK for not much more than buying local. A decent machine in the UK costs say £175 + £40 shipping. That's around $440 at todays exchange rates. SAL shipping from Japan for a whole machine is around $225. That leaves you around $215 or 22500 yen for the machine, commissions and packaging. Most good machines that have been coming out of the parlors for a few months cost around 15000 yen. Add in commissions, etc. and you can have the excitement of importing pretty much anything you want for about the same price.

Don't forget that you are pretty likely to get stung for import duty/VAT when it arrives in the UK as well. You might get away with it if the machine is declared with a low value, but typically it can add £40+ to the price of a machine.

You'll then have to add a mains transformer yourself, and you're unlikely to get any balls, trays. feet etc with the machine (and sometimes no dongle either!). So I'd budget a bit extra for these as well.

For a machine that sells in Japan for £50, you're likely to end up paying nearly £250 before it's sitting in your game room here in the UK. I had been considering starting a personal import service myself, now that the Doc is unable to offer this, but as a business the figures just don't add up unless the customers are willing to pay a serious premium for the latest machines.

Don't get me wrong, I've bought more than my share of machines from Nik and Steve but they only have so many to choose from. I've imported a couple dozen machines/cells from Japan, and got hit for duty once when I declared the full value of the machine and shipping. All the other times the agent just marked as used pachinko with the value of the machine. There is a limited selection in the UK so if you are into the hobby don't be concerned with importing - after the 1st time you're in trouble.
