    Default Toy Trains

I thought it would be nice to put a toy train under our Christmas tree this year. I am wondering if anyone here does this for their tree? I've heard Lionel makes a good set, but I don't know what to look for. Does gauge make a difference and I don't want to break the bank. Any thoughts or opinions would help. Thanks in advance.

I purchased an LGB Christmas train about 15 years ago. It goes under the tree now. No kids around the house to mess with it. I love it.

the Polar Express from Lionel is a great passenger set with a 4-8-4 Berkshire engine with smoke and whistle. 3 lighted passenger cars, an 80 watt transformer and the new track with bed already attached.

you can find it on ebay for around $225.00 to $250.00 shipped.

LIONEL 6-31960 POLAR EXPRESS COMPLETE TRAIN SET - (eBay item 200177054951 end time Nov-23-07 17:09:16 PST)

you can also find the larger scale LGB sets for around the same price.

I have this one LGB 92400 VALUE STARTER SET MINT IN BOX - (eBay item 160183176129 end time Nov-28-07 14:26:54 PST)

One of the few memories I have as a child is of my father building the platform for the train and tree. It has become to symbolize what a Christmas tree should be for me. My father used lionel trains, which I still have. But I use Marklin in HO scale for mine. For me, Marklin provides a realism and quality that can't be matched for the price.

I have a vintage lionel set that I bought on E-bay a couple years ago for 100 bucks. It's just a steam loco, four cars and a loop of track. Big Kids like trains too!!

I've thought about it many many times but the idea keeps getting derailed.

I would have prefered to select the Rimshot button, but alas none was available.

Here are some nice fun time Christmas train sets that dont cost more than your wifes smallest gift.

This last set is the one I have. Only I bought it 2 years ago and the train was blue not red and the engine has real smoke! It only cost $30 at Toys R US maybe it can still be found.

Marklin Starter Sets are a very nice way to get into the hobby. They cost no more than an average pachi. Marklin is running a sale of the "Ice":
