the lady does not know what she is talking about, below is why:

Progressive slot machines offer jackpots that are larger than usual. In some cases these jackpots are large enough to be life changing.

Progressive machines are a group of many slot machines linked together by a network. A percentage of the money played on each machine is added to the big jackpot. Anyone hitting the winning symbols on any machines on the network wins the jackpot. There are two types of progressive machine networks you should be aware of. They are the area wide network and the proprietary network

The area wide network would include machines in many casinos linked together throughout the state or certain areas around the country. International Gaming Technology IGT introduced the first progressive machine on March 6 1986. The Megabucks game was designed to rival the large payoffs offered by state lotteries to attract the player looking for the big win. The first jackpot of $4,988,842.17 was hit in Reno on February 1, 1987. The rest as they say is history. Progressive machines have been gaining in popularity ever since. As the popularity has increased so has the Jackpots. This year a record setting $35 million was won in January. IGT introduced many other progressive machines including Quartermania, Wheel of Fortune and more. You can view and watch the MegaJackpot meters for all the IGT games anywhere in the country they on the IGT website. If you are looking for past history of the jackpots, you can find that online as well. The casinos do not own these games. IGT installs and maintain them in the casinos that wish to participate. The casinos receive a small percentage. Because they attract players to the establishment the casinos grant them space.

To gain more profit of their own, many casinos have installed proprietary progressive machines. These progressive machines are placed in carousels and are linked throughout the casino. Although these machines cannot offer the huge jackpots of the area wide progressives, they do offer a big jackpot that has a higher hit frequency. I have seen some of these proprietary machines in a busy casino hit several times in a night.

All progressive machines have two things in common. The money for the jackpot comes from a percentage of the money played through the machine. This means that they payback of progressive machines will be less than the payback of other non-progressive machines. The second common feature of the progressive machines is that YOU MUST BE PLAYING MAXIMUM COINS TO WIN THE JACKPOT. If you aren't going to play maximum coins you should not play these machines.

The odds of hitting one of the area wide progressives are astronomical.

I seem to remember someone posting a link to a progressive machine made by a pachislo company. I think it was here at pachitalk. But it could have over at PC. It was within the last month.

It was a progressive machine, and it was skill stop, and it was by a pachislo company. But my impression was that it was not intended to be sold in Japan or even the US. It was probably going to other market were the laws are different.

    ButÂ…

It will be needed to be hooked up with others machines thru a computer to be able to do what Progressive means. I really do think you can have Progressive with just one machine.

I have a Progressive Sigma Treasure Wheel, but it doesn't work Progressive because of the above.

That is why we have to figure out the interconnect, so we can hook the progressive machines up to the Internet and each of you can jack up the Jackpot for me...

I have seen many "Vegas style" machines in casinos all over the country that incorporate a progressive jackpot based upon money played through the machine, without sharing a common jackpot with a pool of networked machines. Sometimes they are clustered, but they all have there own independent "progressive jackpot. Hitting the progressive jackpot on one of these machines is how I paid for my pachislos :-) I still have enough winnings for one more, but the wife is capping me at 3 until we rearrange the guest bedroom into a game room :-)
