It's not a matter of like or dislike, it's more a matter of economics and ease of opertion. I have an old 5 gallon glass jar which is the catcher of all my pocket change. The ease part is, I'm not sorting out the pennies, nickles and dimes to get to the quarters. I just dump it all in there.

The economics part is I didn't have to pay $200 plus for the jar. Also since I do like to play the machines I'm not limiting one of them to be played only when I have some pocket change.

I know, I'll take one of my older machines, change out the glass to reflect a carwash theme. Then sell it on ebay as an actual working piggy bank. Every time you wash your car in the driveway, you donate $5 in quarters to the machine, if you want to take your car to the automatic carwash, you relieve the machine of some of it's booty. 8-)

Now that's a good idea Tulsa. I'm now thinking that I'm not going to convert mine. Instead I will just have everyone pitch in money every time they come over and once the bucket gets enough money in it then we will play for money. Then they can just cash the tokens in. And every time they want to play they will have to buy tokens. Or something like that. It'll make it fun.

Now I am thinking about holding onto to my Babel since for some reason it takes quarters ok anyway and setting it at level 1. Then everytime I find a quarter laying around I will play it in the Babel instead of throwing it in the jar of change I have now. As it is - the Babel I have is being used as a support stand for Race Queen. Might as well let ol' Babel be a piggy bank... :-)

What we need is a way to divert quarters (and quarters only) into the overflow bin. That way people could play with quarters or tokens, but they'd only ever win tokens.

That's a great idea! Well as long as the guy playing isn't bigger than you are!

    You can.

fill the hopper with 800 to 1000 tokens.

Take an aluminum roasting tray put it on top and form it to fit the hopper, cut as you need to fit the top of tokens and still allow the quarters or tokens to shoot into the tray and route it to poor the quarters or tokens into the overflow.

Wala! you got a machine that takes quarters (need to do a conversion to the coin slide) and pays in tokens

That's one solution. But you still need to sort out the tokens from the quarters in the overflow. And you'd have to empty the overflow and fill the hopper more often.

It would be much more elegant if we could figure a way to route tokens into the hopper and quarters into the overflow.

Set up a second coin mechinism that hasn't been converted yet. After the coin is registered by the first coin mech, the second can act as the the sorter.

Can Don Don King be converted to quarters? The pictures I've seen are not the mechanism I've seen for this machine. I think I read a post by Davis that there is a sensor that must be adjusted?

I have the Azteca (Eleco) and I tried to convert it, but when I made the slot smaller it won't take the tokens anymore (they would get stuck) and the quarters still got spit out the front? Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks!

My first machine was a Azteca (not the Azteca returns I have now). As a newbe The first thing I did was ask the guy I bought it from was how to make it use quarters. I got mine to use both. Their is a metal piece that the coin rolls on.If you take the coin mech. off the door and look on the back you will see the two screw hold ing it on. If you loosen them you can adjust it a little bit to except quarters. You will have to play with it a little to get it right.Put both a token then a quarter in. Maybe you will find that happy middle. Mine still spit out the quarter some times. I feel the tokens are better, but thats my prefance.

Lazarus - I tried that but I could never get the quarters to work at all. I fiddled around with it for an hour or so. Also since you have the same machine, does the Azteca have a volume control anywhere - or do I have to mod the speakers somehow? I have an infant and she is scared of the thing. I can only play when my wife and her go out - its killing me to see it there and not be able to play. i am like a junky who needs a fix.
