Default Just got a Rescue Dog pachi

Hey gang! I just got a Rescue Dog off of E-bay... I've always wanted a Pachinko machine and this one looked really cool. I was thinking of getting Indiana Jones too but... well I was gonna post this properly in the "tech-help" section but it's so basic and I need help now ---

Where is the volume control on a Rescue Dog (or maybe any Sammy brand) machine? The instructions I got said look either on the lower back or in the front behind the ball tray. I've looked top to bottom, front to back, and can't find anything except the ball launch sensitivity control. It's the weekend so my supplier won't get back to me at till Monday. It is currently so loud that I can't play it.

Thanks for any help! Glad to have found this place

try to follow your speaker wires or look for wires the same color, they should go to your amp.

the switch will be somewhere around the cover. they hid them pretty good. look for an opening in the plastic,

OK so there are two speakers on the top, one on the bottom. All of em have red/black wiring and all merge into some mega-cable and disappear into the backside. The only thing I found so far is a switch on the biggest board near the top. I didn't test it though cause it's too late right now to experiment! If I knew 100% it was the volume control I would give it a test but I'll have to try that tommorrow.

Hah! Ya know I was looking at it thinking to myself: "This isn't a consumer product, if I owned a parlor and had 72 machines I'd want my volume controls to be no fuss (on/off) type... I guess this is why there are people who install their own volume controls then? To be able to have smooth adjustment? I'm an audio engineer too so... yeah having only 3 settings for volume is kinda not my style! LOL

In the parlors, your lucky to hear the machines over everything else!
And 72 machines is a little parlor, try 300-500.

    True that!

Well I set the Rescue Dog to its quietest level and it's... still totally loud but, not insanely loud. I'll keep digging around the forums to see if there's any volume control projects out there.

    Welcome to PachiTalk Erniesan!!

in the meantime, if it is way too loud for you to play comfortably, you could try a temporary measure
by using some cotton wool or even socks to dampen the sound down...

I just unplugged all the speakers! While it's not ideal, it will work until I splice in a volume controller in front of each speaker. Should be super easy to do after reading up on some of the posts here. Then I'll get it set to a nice "apartment" compatible volume level.
    .

swear to god the first time the thing made any noise my jaw hit the floor. I was equally impressed and terrified!!

and now I've gone and ordered an indiana jones machine which is reported to be one of the loudest ones ever! hahaha, well at least I'll be ready with my volume controls this time! Although I kinda want to get my grandpa over and have him put in his hearing aid and play for a bit, probably scare the jeebus out of him!

I would not recommend operating the machine with the speakers unplugged. Without a load on those amplifiers you run the risk of blowing them it it does not have a limiting or clipping circuit installed.

Any audiophiles out there that has more in depth info about the amp's in Pachinko's?

    Yes Indy is VERY LOUD!!

In fact my own Indy managed to melt some volume pots that were in it - lots of scary smoke!!

So I had to get some more heavy duty ones installed

I can't remember what they were off hand, but I'm sure someone will chime in with the Technical details,
before I get a chance to check...

Yeah I read about the Indiana Jones melting volume pots... The thread never totally resolved which ones were best. Still seemed to be some debate between radio shack ones and another type... although for teh Indy machine maybe the radio shack ones were too weak.

Still... I'm psyched to have my own pachinko in the house! Even if they do require contractor grade hearing protection

It was lucky that I bought my Indiana Jones from the good Doc (Drcrippen324) he happily and quickly sent me Replacements as soon as he knew there was a problem.

and the Indy has been perfectly happy ever since, although I'm not sure which ones they are or where they were bought, but I think the replacements were sourced here in England

Here is what I have been putting into the Pachislo's. :

    http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...TOKEN=61340841

They are currently out of stock with a resupply date of 11/15/2007. They do have and e-mail listing you can fill out and they will let you know when they are in.

The Pic below is the schematic for them.

This volume control was in the Dragon Dice that I purchased from rjb0388.

RJ sent me the info on it and the mono control which is currently in stock:

    http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...TOKEN=14422516

There is a write up about it in his Page http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/loca...84&linkid=1505

The nice thing about them is that you can adjust the volume without opening the machine up. There are lots of locations to install them on the Pachislo's. The Pachinko's if in a cabinet would not be to much of a problem. If not in a cabinet you could mount it on the top of the frame either side of the Hopper.

Their adjustment range is from nill to full blast without fear of them burning out or getting hot. They are 15 Watt L-Pads. Plenty big for our machines that need them which are few in number.

To date "Julie has burned up two sets of the smaller volume controls. Socks are in place pending the stereo controls being back in stock. Then he is going to have one of there installed.

A permanent volume control would be a fixed resistor from 50 to 68 Ohms. The 50 would be slightly louder than the 68.
