I did see a write up in Hot VW's a few years ago about a retired plumber that put a 454 big block Chevy in a 1968 Bug. He removed the back seat, moved the dash back and made it a two seater. Engine fit under the stock hood. The drive shaft was only 10 inches long. The write up stated it as a daily driver.
