I used to work at the FRB years ago, repairing currency counting and sorting machines. They also detected (among other things) counterfeit notes. That one didn't slide by me, since I've seen my share of them.
Selling it is the last thing you'd want to do with it... besides passing it.
Just bite the bullet on that one... you've been had.

Raised Notes (from Know Your Money)

Genuine paper currency is sometimes altered in an attempt to increase its face value. One common method is to glue numerals from higher denomination notes to the corners of lower denomination notes.
