    Snap!! LD!!

I have a Mobile Phone somewhere, in fact I think I have two!!

Now I remember seeing one recently, but as far as I am concerned they can both get lost and stay lost!!

As much as I like the idea of the iphone as an all singing all dancing phone I have used an Xda II with bluetooth for over 2 years.
If I want an 8gb memory I just stick a smartmedia card in it, I have tom tom sat nav loaded on it which works superbly, internet access, not fast but it does the job , windows media to play films , I have "Blade Runner" and " Play it again Sam, (woody allen)" on it at the moment, it has Internet Explorer, microsoft pocket word , pocket excel, games like tetris, chess, and pong , a good camera, photo album, microsoft reader with about 15 Ebooks , MSN messenger, video MMS, email, its a phone a music player and an organiser, so the Iphone can wait for a while just yet

It looks good and has some very nice features...that I have no use for. Heck, if they were giving them away I still wouldn't get one.

But the only reason I have a cell phone is for emergencies when I'm in the van, or to make (short) long distance phone calls. My old Sprint phone doesn't bend, fold or take pictures. That's fine with me, it does what I want it to.

A 100 years ago, Bell invented the telephone so someone could TALK to someone else over great distance. It worked very well, so much better then writing a letter, or Morse Code. Only problem was the wire...you needed lots and lots of wire. Then Marconi came up with radio which soon was coverted to transmit the human voice over great distance without wires. Only problem was that anybody with a receiver could listen to your conversations. Then some very smart British man came up with a way to transmit live action video over Marconi's great invention, but that was mostly one way communication. alas, the masses could only receive and not send TV. Then Satan came along and tempted "EVE" with the cell phone and the simple gizmo that Bell invented has been turned into an addicting drug that man has no cure. The pages of technology have been turned back with all the goobly gook that has been crammed into the smallest package. Instead of simply talking to someone over great distance, you now have to fumble with a keypad too small to see, torture yourself over what ringtone to select, and strain your thumbs sending a TEXT MESSAGE...what the hell is up with that??? Doesn't text messaging defeat the purpose of having a phone in the first place? What's next...a Morse Code key? How about SMOKE SIGNALS for crying out loud! No one on Earth needs an iPhone, what man needs is a cure for cancer, a real cure or whatever. Our priorities are so screwed up...

I watch the judge shows on TV sometimes, most cases are for huge cell phone bills run up by friends or members of the family on the same plan.

disconnect fees are huge, If I ever got one I would get a "Virgin" and pay 18 cents a min with no monthly or disconnect fees.

I got to play with one today for about an hour. I think the thing Apple has always been great at is user interface and this thing really does live up to that. I have never used an iPaq, Blackberry, or cell phone that were this intuitive. The multi-touch screen is really fantastic for google maps, browsing the web, and while the software/apps onboard are not revolutionary - I think we're getting to the edge of what people want mashed together into one device and yet still make it useable. I agree the price is insane, but so were BlueRay and HD DVD last year, but now they are about half that price - this is typical first adopters paying for the bragging rights. But when they do become affordable, I'll be getting one.

Oh and for the record I have both a PC and Mac at home.

They were going to introduce iSmoke last year but it was susceptible to second hand calling plan providers and they had to pack it away, they may light it up again later this year.

isnt that the reason they delayed it this long , it kept trying to send smoke signals and any good tech knows once the blue smokes out nothing works anymore...

    "Roll your own" iPhone?

Interesting article, for those not quite ready to lay out the cash and be at the mercy of a closed OS.

"The No. 1 gripe among iPhone owners is its lack of support for third-party apps, which means you're stuck with whatever Apple thinks you need. For power users, this is simply unacceptable."

aint that the truth !!! same ol Apple nothing new there .

"Also, these Linux phones will have one particular feature we likely won't be seeing on the iPhone anytime soon -- the ability to make calls using voice over internet protocol."

this part may have some intresting applications .

You can web browse wirelessly for free and have all the ipod functions all without having to have the At and T contract. Of course you can't make a phone call hehehe...
