    Default My Ken524 Designed Cabinet

I just finished my first Pachinko cabinet thx to member Ken524's Great design.

Well its almost finished I need to install a ramp to keep balls off of the machines bottom shelf as some balls get caught there because the shelf does not clear the ball drop hole.

I will also have to use material to dampen the sound of the balls falling into the lower tray. (The Ramp will help with that as well)
If I knew how loud it would be I would have inserted foam under the curved upper floor of the lower tray to fill in the empty space between it and the bottom floor of the case. Now its too late.
That should help dampen the sound. As it is the set up now, The sound is like dropping balls on the top of an acoustic guitar. It gets amplified alot from the hollow space beneath the top curved floor and lower floor as well as the lower tray opening and the space behind the machine. The design behaves as an acoustic speaker.

I already have this great rubberized material that I will install on top of the lower tray upper curved floor and Ramp.

I cant mount the case on the wall yet as my lock mech is not working.
The lock dog is just not the right size and I have to get it fixed or I would have to drill holes in the case for latch access and I dont want holes in the side of the case.

Here are pics of the case minus the yet to be made ramp and the rubber sound damping material.

I will also have to add the upper hopper channel system for the balls to get directed to the drop hole a step I hadnt gotten to yet.

I also took some pics of the really cool ball stop mech. I made mine out of Plexi. The dowel is not completely painted for contrast in the pic.

I had purchased 2 different Onyx colored knobs for the lever handel but after rounding off and painting the dowel end I thought that it looked perfect just as it was with the case.
Now I have two very expensive knobs LOL

This is a very nice case design. Hats off to KEN 524.
If you really wanted to, you could add all sorts of lights and trimming its just a great platform.

Anyone wanting a really attractive case that can hold tons of balls this is a sure bet. Thx Ken524

Eddie Great cabinet. May I ask how you routed out the clear plastic for the upper hopper ball stop? Is that one solid block or 2 parts put together? I like that idea using that material over wood.

Nicely done Eddie! That is a "museum" quality piece and your choice of Pachinko was a good one.

Great Job Eddie! (and thanks again to Ken for the design.. I've got 4 and materials to build a fifth).

The ramp for the balls is a good idea.. I also added that mod. You might want to make the ramp wider than you think you need it to be, because it might move a bit side to side.. the balls falling the short distance and striking it make my ramp bounce ever so slightly.. and eventually a narrow one will move far enough over that the balls miss it altogether.

I put cork on the ramp to dampen the sound, but decided not to put cork on the inside floor because I was worried too much cork would eventually en up inside the machine. The only other sound-dampening material I had on hand was craft foam, and when I put a piece down to try it, the balls wouldn't roll on it. What material do you have in mind--because a little more sound dampening would not be a bad thing.

The only other problem I've run into has been that when the ball tank on top is very full, it is heavy enough to push balls down hard enough to over-fill the hopper on the machine itself--and balls fall down the back. I fixed that by adding a small piece of cardboard to the back of the hopper--just wedged between the balls and the side of the hopper. It works fine, except opening the machine will make the cardboard run into the pipe coming down from above. I don't worry about that, since I almost never open mine.. I was too lazy to install the ball-stop.. I just scoop all the balls out of the top before opening--I've only had to do it once.

Anyway, it is a great design, but the best part is all the people who add their ideas to it and make it even better!

A good sound dampener that won't shred is that mesh-like rubberized shelf liner. I've used it in all my machine cases and am very pleased with it. It's also easy to work with.

Im not sure if I understand which part you are asking about as no part was routed. If you mean the part that holds the sliding piece? it is made of 5 pieces of Plexi, Top and bottom pieces and 3 small spacer pieces. The top and bottom pieces were drilled for the ball Tube at the same time with a holesaw before assembly.

The plans fo the mech are in Ken524s Cabinet Plans PDF which you can search for on the site.
He used wood in the design.
I just like playing with Plexi so I used it instead and I thought it would be the ideal material for the application.

I hope I answered the question you were asking. Maybe you meant a different part of the mech?

Once it was all together I thought that may be a problem. I figure the next time I make one, If I do make one, I will make the slider holder out of Plexi the shape of the hopper top and that way it can act as both a cover and slider holder. That will be a cleaner solution to the overflow problem.

My slider holder sits almost flush with the hopper top but the ends are a little shorter so some balls may have a chance to escape from the long ends of the hopper.
Ill see what happens once the machine is installed on the wall and is played for awhile.

Waiting to see what Ken 524 thinks!

Thats what I use applied with spray adhesive. I spray the adhesive to the back of the material then apply it to whatever it is. Its much cleaner that way and no excess glue anywhere. Im a neat freak LOL

I just remembered this old post about the material and it has a pic of the brand.

Silly question for you Eddie. What was the thickness of the plexi and what did you use to glue it together so it was still clear?
