    Default Snipeing on ebay

Can someone explain what happened on my last attempt at a snipe on ebay? It was the Gin Gin Maru I put a snipe in for $94.88 the high bid won at $94.08. i am using Auction Sentry and had it set for 20 seconds. I had it set on 27sec. for an earlier auction but that was to slow they got in another bid in before ending. It does not even show me with a bid. Item is in red and everything on. I thought I had this figured out! Laz.

I have never used a sniping software program myself. I can only guess that maybe the internet connection you had was interrupted for a second or two.

Whenever I snipe I go in at 7 seconds or less(manually) but I am constantly updating at least 2 or 3 screens manually a few seconds before then to make sure I have the connection. Plus I turn off my firewall and virus protection just for those seconds so I have no internet burps (from them anyway).

If this was a sniping service that you paid them to do it for you them I would give them heck !

Maybe the winner was using sniping software too!

your bid for 94.88 went in after the bid for 94.08,

ebay wanted the next bid to be in dollar increments, yours was only 88 cents so their software didn't accept it.

if you had bid 95.08 you would have won.

i have had the same thing happen to me.

your best bet snipering is bid the highest you are willing to pay.

sometimes you can get a great deal.

an example is bid 101.00 or 110.00 on the gin gin maru and win it for 95.08

I know of a guy who has a gin gin maru for sale, it has volume kits on it and I think he wants 150 for it, but he might be willing to drop the price. Let me know if interested!

Why 20 seconds? Do you have a slow Internet connection? If you have DSL or Cable, you should be using something much shorter. I use 7 seconds.

You can test to see if your setting is long enough to reliably get a bid in by searching ebay for an item called "astest." This is a special test auction that Auction Sentry puts up. (They will always cancel it before the auction is over so no one ends up winning and having to pay!)

Use Auction Sentry to put in a bid. Not a delayed bid, but one that is placed right now. Auction Sentry will report back how long the transaction took. Now just add several seconds to that time for safety.

You will still lose the auction in situations like the one you described where your bid isn't enough higher than an existing bid to be legally placed.

It is true that if your bid had been in ahead of his you would have won. But there is no way to reliably do that. You never know what time, or what amount someone else might bid. So the only predictable strategy is to make sure your scheduled bid really is for the absolute maximum you'd want to spend, plus a couple of dollars, and then just live with it.

I have dial up it is sloooooooow . But not for long. In my area no cable and phone company will not be putting in DSL. But my Internet provider is my neighbour and he is installing wireless Internet . I had to give him both legs for the hardware and i will be paying at least a arm for his slowest package but it will beat siting here at average 30k. After I will not have to twiddle my thumbs while I wait for a page to comb up . I had it set for 27sec. but thought it was to fast. Not too much has went good this year! My son's illness, dad passing away, my mom with heart trouble and cancer at same time and an unexpected pregnancy. Finding pachislo's and most of all, this forum has bean one of the good things. I look forward to being Abel to bring up this forum when I get home from work! Laz.

He's just filling the void in the area, can't blame him for that just don't like paying so much to send a signal 200 feet across the road. Laz.

Auction Sentry is based on your own PC, so your own connection speed will come into the picture. There are other "services" that use high-speed servers to do your sniping for you... but personally, I won't trust ANY one elses computer with my password to eBay.

So your connection speed has a LOT to do with it. But just as lucky said, you got cancelled because at the time your bid was made, it didn't qualify.

Auction Sentry messed up on me tonight... or maybe eBay did. I had fine-tuned it to 2 seconds. I was sniping a vintage pachinko I found in Western NY that was telling me shipping was only $13.88! They even confirmed the shipping price by email. WooWoo! Anyway, by the time eBay replied to the inquiry A.S. sends just before bidding, the auction was over and it didn't place my bid. I guess I had it set a little too tight. All for the better perhaps, as I found another "vintage" that looks pretty interesting with a $50 buy it now, and reasonable shipping. Came out to be lower than what I was going for the other one... and looks cleaner. The other was sort of pitted.
This one looks like it may have a story behind it... like it was an award or something?

I wish I would have caught the other one this guy was selling BIN last night... one of those Rhapsody machines (birds)... BIN at $50.00!
finninn got it. Does he visit the board? I'd like to congratulate him on a nice find!

As far as DirectTV or DishNetwork, do they have two-way satellite now? Last I checked (a while back) you had to have a regular dial-up for sending... satellite was for download only. I'm REAL happy with my ADSL, though... I do 950Kb down and 350Kb up... pretty good for out here in the "sticks". Where I work we've got a fractional T1... 512Kb down, 512Kb up... and I pay about 1/10th of what they do for that!

I snipe with Camo paint on so that way even my own compter doesn't see me coming or going. I hit on the 3-4 sec shot.

    You got that right!

I can't imagine how much money I would have spent on Ebay if I had some sniper software doing 3 or 4 second snipes on everything I would be interested in. This way if I am home and haven't forgotten about it - I bid on it with the last second snipe. If I forget or I am not home then thats the way it is. There will always be another auction or two....
