    Default Smartcard Artwork

Dave's Enhanced Dongles and the Smarcard Option has revolutionized the way that we play with our Pachinkos. Their use, along with a Ball Lifter mechanism, has dramatically reduced the need for the excess ball handling that has been a staple in our hobby.

To further the Parlour experience and add some classy polish, I have been toying with a number of Artwork designs for my cards that I am willing to share with you.

Once I have completed few dozen of these, I will donate them to Dave for general use. These are all sized at 960x600 pixels using 300 dpi wherever possible.

As always, your comments and suggestions are welcome.

Anything one can dream up can be printed. Just make sure if you have something that gets printed right to the edge, that you include a 'bleed' area.

If not, it makes it hard to align the image with the card and can leave a white border on some or all edges. Images on white backgrounds are a lot easier to print properly.

Thanks for the card images, these designs are a lot better than my attempts so far...

Remember that not all card printers will print right to the edge of the card. On my printer there will always be a white border of about 0.5-1.0mm (about 1/32").

The specification for my printer says that the image size is 960x600, but it looks like that is the maximum size where the corners of a square image will not be cut off by the rounded corners of the card. A test print has shown that it will print right up to the image buffer size of 1008x624, so all new artwork should be at least this resolution.

As compirate suggested, if you're going for print right to the edge of the card, it might be a good idea to design your images with a 32 pixel bleed area around each edge and then crop it down for printing. This way you can retain the full image for compatibility with the latest printers that will print 'over the edge'.

On my printer, if the artwork is designed to go right to the corners, I find that adding a 32 pixel radius on each corner (with a white background) looks better than printing a square edged image, as the edges of the image then follow the edges of the card with a nice even border.

I'm uploading thumbnails of my own artwork to this URL. At the moment it's just a directory with the images in, I hope to add some HTML to it in due course, and also add some of the user generated artwork (with the artists permission) as well.

This graphics design business is becoming very addictive, and I thought I'd "rock-on" while there is inspiration and momentum. Here is a look at what else I've been working on.

These would now have to be considered "Work-In-Progress" as I will now go back and reformat these to comply with Dave's latest specs.

    Enjoy!

I did warn you that this was very addictive, here's a few more.

Better stock up on cards and ink Dave, matching cards to my stock, while not quite up to Compirate's or Arby's standards, will require increasing my order size.

If nothing else, I'll have lots of choices when I get tired of my Avatar!

I'm going to print some of these as glossy "Mini-Posters" using my professional, gallery quality printer to mount near the machines.

Too true, I found some desktop wallpaper images on the web last night, and thought I'd use it to make some artwork for a few Lupin 3rd cards. Before long I realised it was the early hours of the morning, and I really should get some sleep.

With some of the great artwork that I'm getting sent to me, I tend to agree that it's going to be harder to choose what to print on the cards, and order sizes may have to increase .

Thankfully I've already got three 200 print ink ribbons in stock (which typically cost about $75 each ) plus a half-used one in the printer, and I'll be placing the order for 500 blank smartcards today.

Those PSD files from Sankyo make it easy to do cards for their machines. Very high resolution. I wish the other manufacturers would follow suit!

Dishpan you are creating some very nice and intersting artwork for the smartcards. There are many that I have taken a liking to.
