    Default Pachinko Wall

Been meaning to put some pics up of my Pachinko Wall for some time now. Was going to wait until I'd painted the cabinets but that could be ages away.

I would like to point out that I didn't actually 'make' any of the major parts but simply modified what I had, to suit me.

I started with a blank wall and a radiator and finished with a 3 game Pachinko Station!

That looks very nice. I love how you stole the space over the radiator that might have otherwise gone unused... IMHO, only one thing could make it better... sandwich the odd machine between the two white luminas. Yeah, I know... I have severe symmetry issues Seriously, it looks great!

Now I'll go into a bit of detail as to my train of thought when putting this together (for those that may be interested).

I decided on using a back board as it was easier to create a flat wall on which to hang the cabs and get them to line up neatly.

The radiator cover also helps to support the cabs as well as hides the radiator.

The radiator cover was longer than needed so I could hide the return ball bin behind it too. This bin holds about 6000 balls comfortably. I lined the bin with 10mm foam to reduce the ball noise.

Each game frame was 'lean't ' back by about 1 degree to reduce ball against glass noise but also to improve play on games (such as Star Wars) where the ball rolls in
front of the vid screen and sometimes rolls off the front or into the 'Chance' hole in the centre. I tried a few different angles and for me 1 degree gave a good compromise between rolling off the front and making the Chance hole. ie. neither was guaranteed. I fixed the frame into the cabinet with screws 500mm apart in the sides with the top screw 10mm back from vertical. 1 degree is equal to 8.7mm by my (sometimes dubious) arithmetic.

The hopper on top of the cabinets is one continuous bin. If I maxed it out it could hold 20000 balls instead of the 12000 it holds at the moment. Another reason for the heavy duty back board. I didn't have enough ceiling height to create a ball lift system although, in hindsight, there may have been a better solution. Using Daverobs dongles neccesitates a big supply as all balls are supplied from this hopper.

The tube feed into the Pachinko hopper is (height) adjustable should I change games. I find the tube needs to just skim the level of the Pachinko hopper to avoid losing balls out the back from the weight of the balls above.

The dead ball collection is created using 40mm plastic pipe. It is fixed together using rubber solution glue rather than solvent so it can be pulled apart should I use a different game with a different waste ball outlet position.

The L-Pad fits nicely out of sight yet the volume can be altered instantly as required (or when the wife goes out) as it is easily accessible. They have been faultless; I've yet to blow one up.

The sluice style gate on the side of the rad cover links into the waste ball bin so when the bin is full or I'm starting a major session I can empty it in one go and fill the main hopper.

I like to use Daverob's dongle as a counter rather than a credit meter so that I can tell when the bin is in need of emptying. I also use it as a ball dumper when I need access to the back of the game.

All I need now is to find a paintbrush..............

    Birdbrain (L-Pads)
    Daverob (Super Dongle!)

    Critique welcome, of course.

    It's a good point.

I was toying with the idea of having 3 Luminas at one point and put the SW and JP in first to see how they looked. Time passed and I ended up fitting it in this position mainly because the depth of the game is greater than SW or JP and the subframe needs to be fitted further off the back. I can't just swap it over without repositioning the subframe. Also, SW and JP are keepers (for now!) and if anything does get replaced it will be the PB.

Quick quiz for you. Where would you put the small pinball? :lol8:

    Very nice!

I think the way you built it, you should be able to incorporate a ball lift system pretty easily at some time.

a ball lifter would fit real well inside you waste ball box and happily pump balls up to your top hopper not having to alter anything apart from putting a flat bottom on the ball collection box and hiding a wire up to the top hopper to run teh switch for teh ball lifter
My rice krispies told me to do it

I can see you put a lot of thought and effort into that project!

P.S. the smaller pinball should go on the end to the right

Awesome setup! I have a bookshelf with space for six machines built into one of my walls which would be an ideal substrate for a similar system. If only I could convince my wife to move all her books! However, I'm fortunate enough that I have one machine in the bookshelf. She gets nervous when she sees me looking at other machines to buy.

A bank of 6 would be stunning!

You need to ask your wife to go through her books and find out whether she will actually read any of them a second time. The answer will probably be 'No'. Then gradually edge them off the shelf into a box which in turn is moved into the loft when full.............

if you dont mind my being anal. I think the Red machine should go in the center to balance out the look.
