    DL...

Your photo above, of the DB-25 connector... at one o'clock.
Right above the right most side of it... to the left of the white plug.
A hole, right? Burned through the plastic cover with what was probably a soldering iron???

Is there a blob of solder (solder bridge) on a component under there... probably shorting two pins of an IC?

How about it, pachinkoers??? Who has a hole and/or dongle?
(My God... I don't believe I left myself that open for a reply on that one!)

Yes, there is. Two pins of a small IC have been shorted together. I hadn't noticed that before. Like I said, the board is underneath a bunch of other boards and stuff....

I assume that was done in Japan, prior to being shipped here?

There ya go... now we're cookin'...

Same on my Giant 7. Hard to say if it was done in Japan or by the importer/distributor. It was, no doubt, done by someone that can tolerate the stink of burning plastic! :smt078

If my guess is right, the dongle machines don't have this hole... either they can't access the spot to bridge, or figure that the dongle is a cleaner way of letting the machine play. OR... maybe the dongles are like keys to a pachislo... cost extra to include when importing. Dunno.

So, that signal is probably the input from the card reader telling the machine to play (enable). You wouldn't see a short at the plug side (input) of that chip, because it's the output that's shorted. The input is probably an optic diode. (i.e. optical isolator input)

Try using an ohmmeter on those green inputs... do you know how to test a diode? If not, let me know. (Like I said... I dont' want to toss jargon.)
It might be an alternative input to the enable signal from the card reader.

    Logic,

I tested the continuity of the green connectors both directions, and no continuity either way.

I believe you are correct in that the green connectors could "authorize" balls to shoot, as if the card reader had done it.
