To be honest, I'd say it's a lot more like falling then jumping.

Was only scary the 3rd time. The first 2 times it's all mentally programmed in your head. You hit the ground and just know you made it. I couldn't remember if I did everything right or not but i knew I landed so I must have.

The 3rd time I had door position and back in 1990 that meant you were actually standing in the doorway perpendicular to the aircraft, eyes on the horizon holding the outside of the door, one foot over the ledge waiting for the green light and tap on the ass to GO! (the video is newer and they changed exit procedures since then)

Feels like an eternity and you're thinking to yourself 'man.. what the hell am I doing this for? This aint right.' Then it's GREEN LIGHT! GO! And all that's behind you.

35 jumps later it was like driving to the store for some milk. No big thing.

I got out of the Army as a SGT in 2000 after 10 years.
I don't envy the guys over in Iraq now.. been there, done that, got the depleted uranium exposure... but I definitely do miss it.

as for last guy on the plane. there is a jumpmaster and a safety. the jumpmaster was the last guy out. the safety was the last guy looking out the back of the plane to make sure there are no 'towed jumpers'.

very rarely (and i've never seen it) the static line you're connected to that pulls your chute for you doesn't detach and you're basically OTF (out there flappin'). they try to pull you back in but if they can't, they cut you loose and you pull your reserve chute.
