Default Is pachinko considered a form of pinball?

    pachinko

Arik writes: Is pachinko considered a form of pinball? If so, why is it illegal? I can't comprehend why a game of this nature is any different than a ticket jackpot machine commonly found in kids arcades and chucky cheese's throught the U.S.
As far as I know, Arik, there are no U.S. state or federal laws specifically targeted at pachinko and it is not illegal in the U.S. Its regulation in the U.S. (when not played for money) falls under normal fair games and amusements, which most if not all states do have laws and regulations for. It's certainly pretty easy to acquire a pachinko machine for home use; they are carried by many amusement machine companies, as well as home casino suppliers. Most machines I've seen run in the US$100-300 range.

I thought both Pinball and Pachinko where a form based on Bagatelle?

Anyway as someone what got into pinballs a few years ago (currently own a medieval madness and LOTR UK uppost model) I know that in the UK Pinball machines are now under the gambling act

In UK in recent years (seems to be in last 3yrs as all Stern machines ie LOTR/TSPP etc.. have special posts that can be pressed with 2 extra buttons in centre/left and right) all new pinballs have to come with a uppost mechanism what gives players a chance to stop a ball coming straight down and draining. All what happens is say an uppost pops up in bottom inbetween flippers for say one second so the ball can be stopped. If there not installed (mines never been used inhome on LOTR or the prev TSPP I owned) then its classed as luck ie gambling that theres no way to stop the ball coming down the middle so u then have to fork out over £10k on a gambling liscence!
If I remember rightly where not allowed ticket games for them either for prizes like in USA for same reason as its classed as incentive to gamble. Basically they class any form of game what requires some major luck instead of skill gambling so its same with fruit machines. Home use tho theres no problem as long as u dont charge for games so your quite happy to buy the machines without the gaming liscene lot coming to your door!

I would imagine Pachinko would be the same if it was in a retail establishment in that it would need a gambling liscence (knowing our stupid goverment they would want the ashtrays taking off and the balls feed back in for free and u win a care bear with every game ).
