Default Help with volume control on Indiana Jones

Can anyone help me with installing volume control on an Indiana Jones? What part should I get from Radio Shack? What wires should it be connected to? Thanks.

Don't go to Radio Shack, purchase the ones pictured at the top.

    American Syscom

You will have to have a soldering iron but you can get that for $5 or $10 from RS if you want to buy something from them. These are 5 for $15 shipped. It's a great deal. They don't come with the red leads pictured but it gives you a good idea of where you put the wire.

Just open the door and place one at each speaker, near the speaker is nice and out of the way. Clip one wire to the speaker and put this in-line where you made the cut. It really does not matter which wire you choose to cut. Strip back a bit of the insulation, not much is needed, lay the bare wire across the metal backing of the volume control and dab a bit of solder on it. That's all there is to it.

Indiana Jones is Louder / more Powerful than my other Pachinkos,
and is the only one that I had to have heavier Duty Volume Controls fitted......

    just thought I'd mention it

just in case, by any slim possibility, this is useful information??

If you have a Radio shack close these are the ones I installed in the lumina frames, don't forget small heatshrink tubing for a pro look.

It does seem the Indy sound system is more powerful than others. Not sure if it's all Lumina frames or not. But if you keep the internal volume slider to the lowest setting, you'll have no probs with the American Syscom controls. You mount them right near the speakers themselves, just inside the play area door.

If this is for a SSlot/Panchinko machine, you might also consider replacing that wimpy transformer. Am Syscom has nice 7A models too and for a great price. They are a good company to deal with.

Slot I picked up a couple of these except the only ones they had were the 10K-o ohm 1.25 watt ones. Can you tell me how to attach it. There are three prongs. I cut one of the wires going to a speaker and attached each end to one of the pins on the pot. I didn't use the middle one. The sound is now lower but to low and turning the little screw does nothing. I tried switching which side was attached to each wire but no difference? Any ideas?

10K ohm is too large of a value to use. It won't give you any range adjustment.

Ok I understand but other than that was it hooked up right? Is the middle post used for anything?

10k is too large but these are 15 turn Cermets so there is a slight possibility you will have a small but touchy adjustment range at the far end of the scale return them for the 1K if possible if you connect the wire to the center and the other wire to the front post, (closest to the adj. screw.) turn clockwise for louder. ccw for softer.
I use 3M foam tape to mount to the frame or door, here is my Vicky and the Fever the King
good luck and don't forget to put the heat shrink on before you solder!

So use the first two pins not the third? What is the third pin for?

If you wanted the volume to increase as you turned counter clockwise you would use the middle and center posts. I wired this by accident it still works just the screw adjuster works backwards from what I expected.

Here's my sad attempt at drawing with letters:

    Pin1 ------WWWWWWW------- Pin 3
    ...........................^
    ...........................|
    .......................Pin 2

The pot is essentially a fixed resistor from one end pin to the other. The center pin is the contact point that slides along that resistive path as you turn the screw. In some circuits, you may use both sides. In this case, you can use the center pin and either side to get a changing fraction of the total resistance - the only difference will be which direction to turn the screw as slothappy said.

Nice description Fronzdan And a nice graphic as well! this diagram is stamped on the trimmer also. snip off the rear ones for a neat look and avoid possibly hitting ground and shorting your amp.

Sounds like you could use one as a balance control, that is if you had any need too.

good observation, but it only will control one channel at a time, so each trimmer could be used as a fader for a channel. you would need one for the left and one for the right.

If your careful and adjust the volume very rarely ( like once and forget it) the cheaper square blue ones will work, I find they are more difficult to mount solidly and are very touchy with the adjusting. I have installed these (pachislo) and had acceptable results. I personally have switched to the 15 turn (15 turns to go from low to high) 1 K cermet because they are easy to fine tune and the narrow profile mounts easy in tight spaces. I have installed these on my pachinkos' and have mounted several on METZ's pachinkos as well. He has multiple Julies and Indys and Vickys it was a very loud place to be without added controls.
A bonus is the neat factory finished look these add when it is done corectly.
If you want to adjust the volume 'on the fly' you would need to get more creative and use Lpadsor trimers with knobs mounted remotly in a location accesable from the player position.
I have never done this type of installation, as it would require additional wiring management and possible drilling of the pachinko front for mounting the volume knob.

Per SlotHappy's instructions, I installed the blue cermets from Radio Shack last night and they work very well on my lumina. I set the frame volume to high then adjusted the cermet to a good level so that the back control could still be used quickly to lower it if needed.

The left side was a little harder as the wires are shorter on that side and there is less space to tuck it away, but all in all a nice remedy for about $5 and 10 minutes of work.

The radio shack ones here are over $3 a piece and the store near me was out. All the stores in my area only carry one on hand. Gas here is $3.25 and I'm cheap.

It is much better to get the ones from the auction at 6 for $15 shipped. I should have mine tomorrow.
