    Default Aluminum fabrication / repair

This isn't exactly a modification question, but more of a vintage repair question. But hey, I'm new to posting in the pachinko area so cut me some slack. hehe

Anyway, on the lovely vintage pachinkos there is sometimes an aluminum cover on various plastic parts. Like on my ball overflow tray there is an aluminum 'shelf' that covers the whole top of the area to give it a little flair. The plastic is indented a tiny bit and this aluminum piece sits on top of it with some glue.

Well, some kind soul in the past took off the metal and bent it, then glued it back on. This is kind of hard to explain without a pic (I'm at work ), but on the little lip on the aluminum was bent so now it's rippled. Does anyone know how to straighten such a thing? It's so small (a few mm at best) that I can't really hammer it out or anything, but was hoping somebody had a thought.

I can post a photo tonight if this question doesn't make sense.

Not seeing the exact damage makes this a blind shot but I offer a small tidbit that might help. I know the piece you describe, I have them and they glue or double side tape it on. the bent metal likely is stretched, it needs to be worked back.
Sheet metal wrinkles can be dollied, or wiped or ironed. the dolly involves both side access the back has the dollie placed on the lowest point and hammered fro the top off dolly on the high side . Work from the most damage to the shallowest.
wiping is a glancing blow, more of a circular hammer motion VS a linear pounding motion.
Iron, just like clothes press hammer on wrinkle lean on it and work it.
If the metal was stretched you will have a very difficult time returning it back to original.

I just was reading a nice article in Car Craft while waiting for my hair cut about sheet metal working. I had a beater I bought in high school that the previous owner dented every panel on it so I spent a few hours with hammer and dolly and bondo. I have a wrinkled painted piece on my '56 and don't want to make matters worse (de-value) by working it.

Or replace the damaged part with a new or like new piece.

I see my punctuation is missing, that makes the paragraph difficult to read, Sorry.
I also speak psydotech on occasion Sorry if I lost anyone. I was taught this skill many years ago and it is hard to put the required technique into words.

What machine is this from? I might have a replacement part.

It's from a vintage Masamura machine that I have never determined the model name of. I was just looking and don't have a pic of it, but I could always take one.

I'm hoping to try your technique (which I understood from the non-punctuated version ) this weekend. I just have to make some kind of jig to go inside the metal. If you were to cut through the part that is bent up it is in the shape of a tiny square, open on one side; a 'U' some would say. And this U shape is then of a length and that length is bent. So I need to make something of the proper curvature to stick inside the U to massage against.

Wow. This is hard to describe in words. lol
