Check out this 90 game bartop mame? flat panel. nice idea for a mame project, flat panel touch screen, I am thinking tablet PC as the base just need software and mounting stand. Has anyone tried this? or is there a cheaper source?

I would try a old Merit Pitboss Case (or 8 liner bartop) and make a new front panel and replace the 8 buttons with a joysick and 4 buttons ("A fire", "B fire", "1P" and "2P"). When you get the monitor out and replace it with a LCD you should be able to fit a micro ATX motherboard and power supply in the case.

I'd have one now but I was able to get the pitboss to work after I replaced a fuse and a shorted button. While I was in there I cleaned and reconnected everything. It has blackjack, craps and video poker.

I can make a new cabinet but don't want to yet. I have 2-3 people locally that want mame cabinets, a future project posibly but the tablet with software could be made in a jiffy.

That's not a Mame machine that's a Merit Megatouch. That's their newer model. I just bought a Megatouch Ruby 2. It uses a touch CRT instead of a LCD so it has a bigger foot print but most of the games are the same. Plus I only paid $800 for mine.

i see that star amusement has a 4 game CRT model for $ 845 but it looks like a huge beast compared to this one. Not sure what the requirements are for a mame program but Ebay has some PIII tablets for less than $100. a cheap start to a cool project? Just don't know it any cool games are designed to run on the touch screen. My BIL has a tablet we connected a GPS and maping sofware to so he has a 14" color GPS mounted in their boat. I don't want him getting my sister lost.

By sheer coincidence I was at a bar and on the bar was the machine I mentioned. I checked it out, it is cool but I would rather have a mame or pachinko.

Why not both These are two different beasts. I have my mame machine and love it but there's something addictive about those Megatouch games. I personally love playing 11ball on the Mega and World Class bowling and Ironman Stewart Offroad on the MAME cabinet.

I do too, just not a bartop mame. It is in a full size scramble cabinette on 4" solid rubber shopping cart wheels. It is over 7' tall. I just had a motherboard partialy go on a PC, now would be a good time for me to start on the bar top. I could then put the full size one out in the garage a wheel it out when I'm "working" in the yard.:lmao:

The touch screen games are fun but Mame is the way to go. I went the ultra cheap route and modded my XBoxes (yes plural and I have a 360). I must have close to 3000 working ROMs thanks to whoever did the BAED stuff on-line.

I originally was going to use a full size cabinet and build it myself but it would have taken way too much space in my game room. Now I have more room for pachis

I have a modded x box that I run linux mame (kxmame in Gentoox) but I have found different roms work/don't work between mame versions. Dos,win and linux. The shell that is used also seems to come into play. The xbox is a bit of a pain to get on the net with a wifi gateway it is a bit hit/miss so are the DVD drives with home recorded media.
